No seriously, I'm not kidding myself here to justify the money spent.
Designs are fundamentally different, my amp employs a DC servo and runs the LM3886 in inverting mode to increase performance.
The power supply employs a capacitance multiplying circuit to effectively reduce ripple without large caps.
This is also a "smart" device, which means:
The entire amplifier is rigged with sensors to monitor its condition, including thermal, voltage, and current at various points.
There's an AVR-based MCU to manage the sensors and respond to fault conditions if any.
This amp has AC detection which means no pops or clicks at power-on or off EVEN IF it was forced to shutdown by a power outage.
I can continue listing why my design is so different but you get my point.
as for why I do DIY?
I do it for the process of designing and learning, not the final product.
as long as I learn from my projects I don't care of the product is crap.
and it's not like I don't have the money, it's just that I don't have a credit card.
