Forced a friend into watching Shinsekai yori.
He can't handle it.
Too intense....
That's what is happening to you if you only watch Naruto/One Piece etc!

Would have been more fun to make him watch Aku no Hana.
He'd probably crack. (or be bored out of his mind because of all the walking scenes)

Yup they count.

Not THAT into EVA, though I don't dislike it.

I've always liked all those crazy Gundam and EVA related products, and both of those series are actually commonly acceptable without being called a otaku/freak (along with One Piece and Disney... at least in Japan. Though EVA is the most otaku of this whole list).

Gundam cellphone w/ spaceship themed dock AND a freakin Gundam RX-78 on the dock to double it as a stand?! TAKE MY MONEY.

That was 3 years ago, wonder what kind of crazy stuff they have now.

I recall there was some Evangelion phones too, not as blatantly awesome as that Gundam one I mentioned above, but the color scheme of EVA-01 is pretty darn nice for a phone color palette IMO.

Girls are nearly always materialistic.

Anyway when you come to Japan you'll see the origin of school uniform girls xD

Would you like to learn how to make them the easy way?

We make our own at home sometimes.

I haven't been there either, and while I want to go, I don't see any direct urge or anything. I do plan to study in Japan for one semester, but that's because I have the opportunity to study abroad for one semester so why not do it in Japan?

Quite honestly, I'd rather study in Japan for one semester than to spend a vacation here for the same time length.

So, that said, quite jelly of your situation.

I didn't work hard enough on school so I don't have the rights to be jelly though...

Except for the fact that the only schools my university can do exchange programs with is Kyoto University (why not?), but only for Business program. Of which I. Am. Not.

My uni only has an exchange agreement with Kyoto as well, but it's definitely not business. They offer an exchange program in which you have to do 6-8 fairly random subjects from across all faculties.

If he comes on the forum he has pics. Can't upload mine from iPad though frown.gif
After that we went to a restaurant called the cheesecake factory and had a $40 meal (after tax and tips and all that.)
Thanks to the school district for paying for it! biggrin.gif

Well, I too was once a fan. *GASP!!!!*

But it has less and less genres that I like so... *shrug*

I still like them for what it is: dedicated studio doing consistent high quality anime... just that it's not what I like, so ... *dons the hate suit* But with Free! I just have to follow and must like it. It's such a blast watching deluded westerners think that either their precious kyoani is betraying them for fujoshi.t or kyoani listened to them most when they went on tumblr talking about a swimming anime. Meta.

I didn't like anything else they did after Clannad AS to be honest.

Did you see it yet? How was it. I have it downloaded but didn't see it. If it's UBER then I'll watch it today.

I stopped liking them around the time Tamako Market started. That's a short period of complete enlightenment where I realized I was just kidding myself about liking moe. I don't, really.

I laughed hard at the first few eps of Tamako Market, but it was pretty empty. And after the series ended, I was still waiting for the 'plot' to come in like Clannad.

Third paper described in the link is the stuff of nightmares for the typical audiophile (excepting yours truly). The comment by the researchers in the comments that headphones are minimum phase systems, if true, would mean that all linear behaviour of different headphones can be simulated by minimum phase filters, which are not different from simple EQs in fundamental nature. Did the virtual headphones score lower than the real thing because of actual inherent quality differences or because subjects just felt discouraged by the fact that the same pair of phones on their head could put out all these different kinds of sounds? (in the previous similar study, crap phones simulating stax were rated lower than the real thing, as might be expected, but the stax simulating crap phones were also rated lower than the crap phones themselves!)

My Closing Thoughts
I believe the work being done by Dr. Olive and his team brought out in these three papers represents a significant step forward in the development better headphone for us all. To summarize:

  • The first paper shows that there is a direct relationship between measured performance of headphones and the listening experience. Listeners strongly tend to prefer neutral, even amplitude response, and good bass extension.
  • The second paper shows that the long time diffuse-field target curve is not preferred by listeners. People prefer headphones that mimic the sound of good speakers in a good room.
  • The final paper describes a method for virtual double-blind headphone testing that is efficient and discriminating, allowing manufacturers and researchers a less onerous method for evaluating headphone performance.
A hearty round of virtual applause from all the InnerFidelity headphone geeks to Sean Olive, Todd Welti, Elisabeth McMullin, and Harman International. Great work!

I'll add that if you're curious about this type of testing, you should come to T.H.E. Show Newport next year. I haven't announced it officially yet, but InnerFidelity and Head-Fi members will be producing a display area called, "Candemonium: A Headphone Sideshow", which will appear in the "Headphonium" area of next year's show. You can think of it as a cross between a carnival sideshow and a science exhibit having a bunch of hands-on experiences with headphones in various ways. (Candemonium is being developed with the intention of drawing audiophiles not yet fully aware of the headphone hobby, and new blood from the youthful public who have an interest in headphones, further into the activity.) Dr. Olive has agreed to sponsor some listening stations in the Candemonium area that will allow show-goers the opportunity to participate in informal listening tests very similar to those described in the papers above. (We'll put some Beats in the mix and see how they do.)

Okie dokie, 'nuf of the technical stuff. Turn the page and I'll show you some pictures of my visit to Harman's research labs....

For the lazy

Well, it seems AKG may start leading the pro audio field again. Unless Harmon decides to take the glory from their subsidiary(AKG)

Too lazy to delete everything from bowei's post, so here:
Oh nice! How was Tsu...something something?

He was a really cool and interesting guy! Thus why we spent so much time just talking, haha.

?He also picked up your advisor!? lol!

Yup yup, he kinda hit it off with my advisor when they started talking about baseball.

Impressions?

Ultrasone 900s suck. W3s aren't bad, but not something I'd own. Needs more treble extension.
