I can live with black bars, but what is the advantage of 2.39:1?

I think he meant to say that movies are seen on movie theaters first. Movies are made to be shown on the silver screen. Widescreen became a standard before home video, and subsequently your monitor or tv. That being said its totally up to the director at what aspect ratio he makes his film, or in this case anime.

Tch. Ocharaku just has to do it to us...

But I've reserved my wallet for a FitEar at graduation. I already got the parent seal of approval :). Will be going to Japan/Monet if still there or 335 in the place of a Graduation party. :) Gives me another incentive to do well on college admissions.

I liked their overall sound. From memory, which is pretty fuzzy since I haven't heard them in a while, they didn't have any glaring faults and they made female vocals sound sweet. Isolation, like most T50RP's, are top-notch for a closed-back headphone. They were a bit heavy on my head though. Personally I wouldn't pay the cost for it, but the hand-crafted wood looks really nice.

You know you're an audiophile when you're in a biomechanics class and your professor mentions "orthostatic". All you heard was a combination of orthodynamic and electrostatic. Audeze SR-003? :o

Also, we're learning about Lame equations. >_<

How about WRT the Mad Dogs?

I thought we were talking about the use of 2.39:1 in Railgun S...

Oh well... If it was about a movie, yeah, 2.39:1 makes sense because theatres.

Yea, I think the comment about 2.39:1 stemmed from the Evangelion movies being in that format. Not sure though, the thread moves way too fast lol.

very nice fishi.

Well, Apocalypse no Toride and Dogs: Bullets & Carnage are great reads. Feel like I'm missing something great. A meh manga (not sure if all of you will like) would be Young Gun Carnaval.

Nah still a little too pricey for me...

Was thinking along the lines of an iPod Nano

I bought my iPod classic 6G 80GB for $91 or so from ebay. That's not too expensive is it? tongue.gif

Considering Smeggy has vanished, I don't think it would be a good idea. What happened to you not liking over ear headphones? blink.gif

Worth considering? Yes.

Should you get it? No. Smeggy has been missing in action for a while now and people have purchased a pair of Thunderpants without actually receiving them. Unfortunate though sine they're so pretty....a few Seattle people might have them, as they have in the past.

Most movies are shot at either 2.39:1 or 1.85:1 because it actually corresponds to our eyes field of vision so that it looks more natural to us in the cinemas. But then there's a lot more into it.

In the past when movies are made with Super 35mm films, the only way to achieve a widescreen image without wasting film surface area (ie. black bars) is to use anamorphic lenses. Using an anamorphic lens will fill out the film surface area but will result in a distorted image. It's then when projected through a projector with a special kind of lens that it will be corrected.
Nowadays with the use of digital, the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and anamorphic lenses are used for a visual and cinematic look effect. You know those excessive horizontal lens flares used in some JJ Abraham movie right? Well that use an anamorphic lens.

2.39:1 Is just a standard for the movie industry. Is there an advantage to the picture? Not really, it depends on what the filmmaker wants to achieve.
Same applies for any kind of movie type. Animation, 3D or motion picture.
