Ok Just finished
I can see why some early reviews weren't favorable now. The weak opening; the complete snuffing of character development for everyone bar Shinji; the shorter, not-quite-as-epic battles in comparison to 2.22; the return of religious symbolism; and the poorly explained ending. It's very much a transitional film. A lot of info-dumping, some confirmations of things that were always heavily alluded to in the TV series and taken as fact by the fans but never confirmed, and the lack of a concrete explanation for the ending really leaves a much larger gap between 3.33 and the eventual fourth film.
Yeah. The OP. I don't care how artistic or whatever it tried to be. 1.xx and 2.xx had OPENINGS...they could have just moved to the action part.
And yeah, nothing is explained in this film. I'm just sittting here going WTF?
Yep, holy crap the facts they confirmed.
Treatement of Shinji by the crew was weird though. I couldn't tell if it was anger, or love.
As for more specific annoyances, the first thirty minutes or so is largely filled by techno-babble. After all the character development for Asuka and Rei in 2.22, 3.33 barely allows them to play a part in the story outside of piloting their Evas (though Rei gets the better deal again). And sadly Kaworu's relationship with Shinji is given less time.
It all adds up to a rather unfulfilling experience. Don't get me wrong, it's still Eva and it's still bloody good (the middle portion has some amazing scenes), but it just doesn't hit the same highs as 2.22.
yep. 2.22 was an amazing movie.
I definatelly feel like 3.xx was intentionally in that it was needed to even do 4
