Are there any tips or clues of what to watch out for? Maybe pills, if something is 'weird' or any tell tale body signs of when enough is enough? (deadly and Tangy?)
You'll be fine! I went though 4 years of college in Boston and never ran into any people dropping pills in drinks, you shouldn't really have to worry about that. Like others said, take it slow at first, feel it out, if you start getting a headache take a break and drink some water. At the end of a night of a lot of drinking, drink some water, don't want a bad hangover, keep yourself hydrated!
Once you get used to it, know how to say no when your at your limit. Many times I was pressured by people to have one more drink, or do one more shot, and it put me over the edge. When you think you had enough, just say no. No ones gonna give you too much crap if you look at them seriously and said, "No guys, I'm really all set thanks"; and if they do then they're not that good of friends!
Most of all have fun! College was a great experience overall, you will learn a lot, and meet some great people, enjoy!
/rant TL;DR Take it slow, say no if you've had enough, drink water
