@ potential P-T builders

Good news!

I bought some fancy looking caps for ya' ....for a fraction of the cost too. biggrin.gif

The fraction is about 1/7th in case you want to know.

The biggest ones actually cost quite a bit if you were to order them from a distributor online.

I did get to hear the HE-5 again though, and I must say that I really fakkuing enjoyed it. If I can save up $375 I might get it, or just save up for a used HE500 at some point down the road. I loaded up the lucky star OP on them for the lulz after hearing a few other tracks and OH MY GOD THERE'S A GUITAR IN THE OP IN THE VERY RIGHT HAND STAGE I'D NEVER NOTICED BEFORE aoiyhsbaosdhfoasihabhoiufbhwoiebhgasgb.
New object of lust...

HE-5 is $375 in the US? WTF? Might get me some of dat Planar schizzle after I recover from my TH900 purchase.

Music is crisp and clear. I absolutely love this headphone and it's a great deal for $99. Will probably be the first headphones I'll own.

9/10 for $99

SR-80i - Pads were uncomfortable at first, but slowly becoming alright after wearing them for a little bit. Still uncomfortable nonetheless. After getting used to them from listening to them for awhile, i was fine with them. However, I don't like on ear pads. At all. Same pressure point problem as HD280Pro. Songs are weaker on these than the HDs. It has good treble, but the bass is lacking. I needs me some more bass.

6/10 for $99

MDR-V6 - More comfortable than the SR-80i, but slightly less comfortable than the HD280. When resting around the neck it feels like its choking you. Personally didn't care for the soundstage on these. Treble was good as well as the bass, but I'd like there to be more bass on them. The bass boost on the C5 might make it a lot better in the bass area, but soundstage is still lacking and it's not as clear as it could be.

6.5-7/10 for $110 ($99 at Echo Audio).

SR-60i - I think these are a tad more comfortable than the 80i in the headband, it seems more firm (demo 80i probably have been used a lot, thus making it not as firm). Pads are still an issue though. Not as clear as I would like, treble is alright but lacks tremendously in bass. Soundstage is meh. I don't like open back headphones anyways (closed backs are better in bass after all in cheap headphones), so for me the SRs aren't an option for me. The 80i was a lot better and for just $20 more I'd rather have the 80i.

5/10 for $79

MDR-SA1000 - These headphones are bizarre. The band makes it feel like there is nothing there and is easily the most comfortable ones yet. However, it's extremely loose and shaking (or head banging) causes it to move around more than I'd like. But just gently swaying/nodding your head causes it not to move around (slow and gentle music listeners will have no problem with its looseness then). The treble was good, but bass is still lacking. It was clearer than the SRs. The soundstage was still meh.

7/10 for $105 ($99 at Echo).

Between these 5 it is obvious on who reigned supreme. The HD280 were clearly the best and was the most all around performer oft the three. If you're ever in Portland, definitely go down to Echo Audio and check out their gear. They also ship gear to and their website is http://echohifi.com/

The HD280 was okay when I tried it. Preferred the KNS8400. The HD380 is more comfy, but the treble is wakko.

Grado pads = stupid design. The high end 325i sounded nice enough to me when I demoed them. Couldn't be arsed to try the SR80i or 60i though.

MDR-V6. Meh. Outdated.

SA1000. They sell these still? I thought they got discontinued like the SA3000 and SA5000.

That store was very mellow and it was fun talking with the owner and workers (well, Mech mainly talked to them, I was busy listening to music :P). I highly recommend that place for any audiophile.

Where you going on your Europe trip?

Wapanese concept of English lyrics duh. Always facepalm when English parts come up on a song since it ruins the otherwise nice lyrics. Even crap-pop (i.e. k-pop) has relatively okay lyrics until they get to the english part, and probably what gives off the bad impressions.

Engrish lyrics in any Japanese or K music makes me cringe. Latin languages seem to be able to do it well enough but it's really jarring in Asian music.

EDIT: Multiquoting long posts with the richtext editor being down is irritating.

It's chrome wanting me to switch browser.

EDIT: Switched to Coolnovo browser. Chromium based, has all the features of stokc Chrome but still supports all the stuff Google keeps cutting out. Like the rich text editor.

Hello,

Sorry if I never responded to you Boris, but yea, 100+ components might be a little out of my range, but I guess the best way to learn things is to try?!

All caught up with Gantz, another awesome series, thanks Panda! Any other recommendations? So far I love both of the recomendations I have read from you, so thanks.

Playing Tomoyo After, I still absolutely adore the way Key is able to craft such amazing stories. And I think all of their stories have had some of the most amazing transitions between happy and sad that are completely natural while being really fast. I LOVE this game so far. 9.99/10

lol I can't agree more. Key does a superb job at that stuff!

Right... For some reason that was not a problem for me, I'm pretty sure I installed Skype in Japanese mode and it stayed English. Atom's computer on the other hand, went ballistic with Japanese Skype.
It might be a good way to help you learn Japanese? tongue.gif

Oh, great price still.

Atom said the grado SR80i lacked bass. I wouldn't recommend the KNS8400 for him, the bass on them is really tight to the point where it sounds bass light. The Beyerdynamic DT250 might be a good headphone to try out instead of the HD280 though.
