I've finished all the modules!!!

Took me the whole of yesterday to do the programming for the stepped attenuator.

but still, it's not perfect. if you turn the volume knob really really carefully, you can deliberately get it to oscillate between 2 states.

Another problem is that it glitches a bit when switching a lot of bits (i.e. 011111 -> 100000 or 101111 -> 110000),

I've minimized this by doing all the (1 -> 0) switches 16ms before the (0 -> 1) ones

but you can still hear a slight discontinuity, otherwise, it is a very smooth volume control.

Eh, I didn't do much for CNY (well, it's no longer CNY in China so I'm not sure what to even call today. American Chinese New Years?).

I thought I was being lazy. It's a bit dark but the case doesn't have the best cable management (pretty good) and some of the included cables are ridiculously thick and stiff for some reason.

Positive pressure = no real need for dust filters. That and there's a built in mesh one on the front.

Well first of all.

 

We need to do a little talk.

 

Top tier CIEM's and IEM's try to do one thing. Either be studio monitors for artists or engineers so that they can get the most neutral sound for their purposes or to replicate the live concert soundstage but still up front feel. The top tier IEM's give you this or try to emulate it. This doesn't say anything for musical enjoyment or anything.

 

So here we have the GR07 MK2 which is $150 and is more or less an universal IEM trying to emulate that style and feature. And that is basically what it does. It does it quite well, but it has many faults. It is more of trying to sound like an IEM that monitors music for sound engineer and not the other kind which gives you the live concert sound. And that is largely it.

 

So by that ranking, it would be a good IEM. IT is easy to see how it got a sonic diamond from CLIEOS. It emulates studio monitor reproduction with a dynamic driver at $150/

 

However, for musical listening, I loathe it. It is not a fun IEM.

No it isn't. But metro is rather superflous. On the other hand, surface tablets support USB DACs as standard.

When you go all the way with tech you get some of the computers in university labs. 9 tesla cards and 4 xeon hexcores for physics simulations.

Guess I'll skip over the GR07, I have enough studio monitor headphones already, pretty much came to the same conclusion about the MDR 7550 in the diary thread. I think I'll pick up some customs and the TH600 instead. Then I'll be good for 4 months or so.
