Not really. The proper comparison would be to use random speaker amps/receivers (i.e. cheapest thing that conducts signal) vs. a "proper" one.
One of the core concept of headphones is that the whole listening room would be replicated between your ears and the headphones, which eliminates many reflectance factors due to object positioning and etc. Room acoustic plays a huge role on sound, which is probably why you wouldn't want to set up a audiophile room in a subway tunnel (echo-cho-ho-o-o) or in a supermarket (way too many random shapes and objects in general). Headphones rely on the fact that most people don't have odd growths around their ears + putting the speakers as close to your ears for the least obstruction in sound transmission. Hair and etc. will still affect sound, much like a listening room with tiles will sound different once retrofitted with thick carpet. The differences may not be huge depending on the changes.

This is also the reason why earbuds in general sound worse than IEMs, if at least in their potential for sound. It's because earbuds often blast the sound right at your ear but not into your ear canal, so what you are hearing is largely reflections off your skin. That would almost be the equivalence to a listening room with a lot of reflective surfaces, and a small window from where you are listening to that music from the next room.

As someone who is reviewing amps, you should be able to discern these differences! Ambient acoustic properties != amping.
Though I am not denying the fact that decent speakers anywhere can be better enjoyed than crappy speakers with lots of noise in a acoustic perfect environment.
Don't you have old/spare shells? You can probably cut them open and just sit the MH1C inside, making sure the parts that go to your ear canal are still the MH1C itself. I mean, CIEMs have a huge portion of space just sitting in visible areas of ears :P
Because it's all in the head! With enough visualization and imagination and concentration you can also give any headphone/earphone the allure of having soundstage.
Our brain is a processor of a sort, nothing stops us from soft-hacking it! No highly sensitive machines will be able to replicate the BS that goes through our head anyway :P
Not bad! There's some odd parts to it but nothing hugely detrimental to the overall enjoyment to it. Bookmarked
With headphones... best not do it if you are a side sleeper. Human heads can be pretty heavy. Even with a pillow, Newton's third law applies.
Exactly how I cracked the cups on some of my headphones =/
First one is quite nice, yes (the carrying box, but the packaging itself is nothing noteworthy IMO).

We may as well take Project-H onto Facebook. I mean, while we did plan and start the project on Head-Fi, it is not limited to it nor is it meant to be started as any form of commercialization. I don't think rewarding for the personal work and time of any member should be regarded as pulling profits off a trade. Not a trouble worth turning Boris into MoT, since Project-H was not meant to be openly commercialized nor was profit part of the goal.

Hmm, funny how that was never mentioned in the scientific books I read on the subject.

I have a good understanding of the hearing system, and NO, if a decent FFT analyzer can't find it, then the brain can't either. (at normal listening volumes). If you don't believe me, go read them for yourself. There is too much information related to this subject to convey it in one post (nor do I have the time to do so).

I was looking back through the thread's gallery to see whether or not I've uploaded that Kafuka-chan image before, and I've got to the point where there was haibunyan's pics here. What a huge error I made regarding his hair. His are flat, while my drawing of haibunyan has "his" hair spiky-ish.

Currently on my N7 are Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou and It's Not My Fault That I'm Not Popular. I thought of rereading Oyasumi Punpun since I stopped it somewhere, but the thought of going back to Punpun's miserable childhood is just too depressing.

Finally got around to watching the Strike Witches movie. Not as lewd as I thought it would be, and about as good (Somewhere between "meh" and "good". Entertaining at least).
