Hello guys,

I have been away from anime for like 4 years. and recently watched Death Note, it was meh. the kira vs L episodes were OK tho.

I enjoyed: NG Evangelion, Monster, Gantz, Elfen Lied, Full Metal Alchemist (all).

kinda enjoyed: Rahxephon, Cowboy bebop, samurai shamploo, hellsing, some anime about 2 families of samurais metamorphing into monsters and fighting each other, Ergo Proxy, some anime about hot samurai girls fighting (hot damn episode 7(?) fight at the ladies room!!!), Bleach up to episode 200 something...

and a lot more that I cant remember or doesnt worth mentioning. (+ a crap laod of hentai)

So, what should I get next? I dont like funny stuff, neither kid's stuff, I like good complex story lines with some blood on it. or some mechas.

Death Note meh!?!?!?!?!?!? Blasphemy!

Since you listed Evangelion you only need one recommendation: Rebuild of Evangelion

Maybe take a look at Bokurano too, I haven't watched it yet but it's currently on my hard drive and creeping up my to-watch list. Oh and probably Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

Please watch the sleeper hit Puella Magi Madoka Magica. The worst mistake you could do before watching it is dismissing it as yet another magical girl series. It's not. Actually the worst thing you can do is read up a bit about it. Since it has been a great hit as of Winter 2011, there are a lot of discussions about it, some are very spoiler-ific.

Too bad you don't like funny stuff though, as I am about to push for Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. They are more like dark comedy with a lot of cultural reference. So if you like those things, it might be a good fit. It is an acquired taste though, even though all my zealous (now stopped) recommendation of it.

Hmm Ghost in the shell might be a fit for you. Sci-fi setting, is not deemed ideal for kids, needs some thinking power to understand.

Serial Experiment Lain. Similar vein to Ghost In The Shell.

Any Gundam series for the mecha, Eureka Seven for more mecha and story. Though it's been a long time since I watched it last, and lost it, so I don't particularly remember much about it other than I loved it. Personally from Gundam though, I recommend 00 and its season 2, although Griffin likes the UC universe more. That's mostly the original Mobile Suit Gundam and its other sequels.

Katanagatari is a good candidate. Blood, nothing funny, I guess a good story, with interesting twist IMO. Maybe also Bakemonogatari could work too. Definitely complex, at least for me. Maybe this shows that I'm dumb? :P Definitely not kid friendly though. Has some good fan service. :3

Full Metal Alchemist? Both the first anime (vanilla, no subtitle) and Brotherhood. IMO it has good storyline.

Other than this I have nothing. (also yay for hentai! \o/)

Only on the surface. I mentioned it because it is a dark show and I can't remember another show that has been universally praised to the extent Madoka has. There is a good amount of tragedy in there if that's what your looking for.

I started to watch it with this skepticism in mind. By the end of the first episode, my mind has been blown and loved it. It's actually a good mindset to have when starting to watch Madoka actually.: please expect it to be girly. :)

I guess I could consider Puella Magi Madoka Magica, but it does seems childish!

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei - is that something like Great teacher Onizuka? that was a little fun.

the more I read the more I remember stuff i aleready had..

Ghost in the SHell - done

Full metal - done, it was very good.

Gundam - some but dont really remember which sagas. guess I need to get it all.

Macross - done

Lain is something I have being recommended a lot. def. in my list.

Eureka Seven - Added

thanks!

No zetsubou sensei is not like GTO, but maybe kinda sorta have the same setup. I only watched some GTO and its manga because my friend was pestering me with it during school, but by now I have forgotten much of it (this was 5 years ago). What I do remember of GTO is that the teacher is a delinquent and do shenanigans with his students. In zetsubou sensei, the teacher is overly negative of life and is suicidal and do shenanigans with his even crazier students. I came in watching that show nary a clue, and I came out 3 seasons and 3 OVAs later a devout and zealous fan of it. It is in my very biased and overly zealous opinion the best show ever made, in the past, present and future. BUT I do see that its appeal is a little bit hard to people with less esoteric taste like me, because it relies on play of words for most of its joke (to set up the characters' personality, and some of the other jokes) and there's a lot of references. The good fansub groups usually put notes about it, although that depends if you like a smidgen of empty space is used to explain briefly about the jokes. There is an external reference site for the still ongoing manga and its anime though.

At least try the first episode if you're put off by the idea that a zealous fan is pushing it though. :)

Also the official translation of the manga by Kodansha is worth the money to get them, and personally am hunting for them. Unlike most other official translation, they do it justice by explaining the word play and references. I don't even mind the westernised naming scheme. It's that good.

itt: people judging media based on looks instead of content, news at 11.

(That said, if you don't find yourself intrigued by the end of episode 3, you probably won't much care for the rest of the anime.)

PS, SEED isn't worth the waste of time, IMO. Better to go back to Universal Century - 08th MS Team, War in the Pocket, 0083 Stardust Memory, Char's Counterattack, etc.
