Speaking from experience, you really don't need to bring a laptop to class since you are not using it. How fun is it by typing your notes? It's better to just write your notes down on a piece of paper. Then comes the problem of scrolling your notes. It's more fun flipping through real papers

Unless you are using a tablet, that be better

Fit aside though, even the weak clamp of the TMAs hurt my ears.

I hate those kinds too. I wonder HOW DID THAT DESIGN CAME TO BE?!

Some people will feel very little desire to move beyond low-midfi stuff like Imperial(I think it was him...) who cared not to move up beyond that. Others will move up rather quickly and so on, but it's just much less room to be unsatisfied with your purchase. That and me personally, I wanted to be able to get all the nuances of the price range while remaining less biased from hearing high end stuff. I personally know I'd have to constantly watch myself and dissociate from the urge to dismiss all low end equipment. But now I don't think I'd ever be able not to appreciate a porta pro or a PX100 for what they are because I've spent time in that range. My audio journey is one that I feel encompasses the full spectrum a lot more albeit slower of a climb.

That and you don't have to necessarily climb like I do either. You can start low and jump much higher and I'd still be fine with that. I just don't think one should go there without training their ear a bit first, just my personal belief. I especially...wholeheartedly believe this is true for DACs and amps. I am still of little hands on knowledge on them. Have a tough time telling them apart too...mostly because I don't have very revealing headphones and need others to test out synergy and the like. Like I know the D1 so far has just not been a good match with certain headphones. The T1, D7000, and K701 come to mind so far.

But back to my main point, I feel especially in hybrid's case where he has other things to buy, he should lower his audio budget and grow more before he jumps anywhere else. A bang for your buck hybrid amp and some lowfi/entry level cans will satisfy him I'd think.

Do note that headphones technology moves slower than pc technology which changes every 3-6 months. So I guess it's better to invest more on pc setup so that it'll still be able to handle future programs of about 1 year or 2 later

But headphones, buy a mid-fi today and people will still be talking about it in the next 5 years

My CIEM Shelling Materials just arrived from china!!
Hope I don't kill myself with them... because we all know:

China + Chemistry = Chemical Hazard.

China + Chemistry + Food = Certain Death.

Quote:
there were lots of accidents and fatalities in hazardous chemical business, the number of fatality fluctuated between 220 and 1100/year. Secondly, the accident rate in developed southeast coastal areas, e.g., Guangdong, Zhejiang and Jiangsu, was far higher than that in the northwest regions, e.g., Xizang, Xinjiang, and Qinghai. Thirdly, nearly 80% of dangerous chemical accidents had occurred in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Finally, various sudden environmental pollution accidents resulted from hazardous chemicals were frequent in recent years, causing a huge damage to human and property.

Hello guys!!!!

Back again after an abscence of 2 weeks due to final exams. It was tough, I just hope  and pray to god that I succeeded on those tests.

What did I miss in my absence because I don't want to read 2526 unread posts :P

Oh yeah, I managed to listen to the Focal Spirit One headphones. Very, very nice build quality and a very warm and relaxing sound signature. Not as reference as a K550 but pleasant to listen to. What I remembered is that it is not particularly detailed but the lows are very well controlled and mids are lovely.

Also tried the Monster Diesel VEKTR just because I wanted to know if Monster has redeemed itself from the Beats. Turns out they haven't. First listening and 4 seconds later, I took them off of my head.

It's harshly colored with the lows bashing the mids and almost non existant highs and lows that are out of control. Not recommended for the asking price of bloody €249 and it's also plastic fantastic. God help us.

The Focal One needs an amp to drive. First heard straight from my Clip+ and I wasn't impressed

That's great to hear. Hope he'll buy some Pandas for the Heroines.

Anyway, seriously lacking in anime and manga, need to find inspiration.

BTW, I just ordered an (I know you guys will bash me for this) Alienware M17x laptop as requested from my brother. It should arrive hopefully in 2 weeks time.

It has an:

Intel Core i7 3610QM, AMD Radeon HD7970M, 6GB DDR3 1600 MHz Ram, 750GB 7200RPM Drive, Killer N wireless card and more.

When I get the laptop, I'll put an Intel 520 120GB SSD and Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 1600MHz. Now the thing is, how to properly migrate the OS from the HDD to the SSD.

The reason why I chose Alienware is the surprising  amount and ease of interchangeable components. You can even change the CPU and the GPU although good luck finding one.

@Graphidz I listened to the Spirit One plugged through my Fostex HP-P1 Dac/Amp but haven't heard it unamped. I liked the sound because it's a very mature and relaxing sound. Good for listening Jazz, Chamber Music, Easy Listening and more relaxing type of music.

Yeah, it's not the prettiest looking laptop out there but having already seen in person, the build quality is actually pretty nice, very very sturdy. Yes their desktops are way overpriced and their laptops as well but when you factor in the fact that the M17x is one of the most easiest to upgrade laptop, I do think it makes up for the premium because eventually, you can't build laptops like you can with desktops.

I do and don't care for lyrics at the same time.

Normally when I just listen to music the lyrics aren't that important. But if you really like a song, it is sometimes worth it to look closely at the lyrics and start analyzing their meaning a bit. It's worth it, because the songs will suddenly gain meaning, instead of just being music.
I did this with the first four King Crimson albums. All the lyrics there are written in poetry, and the lyrics can be analyzed completely separate of the music. It took me quite some time, but I also learned to appreciate the lyricist's use of compressed language. What was interesting to note is that he made the lyrics to sound good when sung, but have a very compressed meaning within them that requires time and thorough analysis to decipher. I found it a lot of fun, but it did take me multiple hours per album. Just reading them ain't enough.

Ohh... don't even get me started on the leftover MDF boards I have when I finished building my guitar amp cabinet....

lol, your B22...
Deadly seems to have a very different way of doing repairs compared to me.
I would have just de-soldered all the transistors in the middle + output stage and test all of them using a transistor testing circuit.
Not that our laptops are free, they are included in the tuition fee as a lease contract. You pay 1/3rd of the initial price each year, and after three years it's yours.

These MDF boards are from unused bookshelves, but they have the perfect depth, so I just need to cut them length wise. Thickness is good as well. I count myself lucky!

Desoldering is a pain. Anyway, he told me to replace a bunch of transistors, which I did, but the same problem persists. Maybe you can help me?

Yeah, it was pretty useless.
Although playing games during boring lessons was worth it. To me, this was the only actual purpose of the laptop.

That. And bringing it with me on vacations so I can still play games and watch shows without having to resort to my rather crappy DS.

I just cannot get into the animation even a little bit. Sorry people who like it. -__- The premise/setting kind of gets under my skin. I can't root for nationalism or war or justice or anything vaguely related to such primitive or "barbaric" (for lack of a better word) ideas. Also not really a fan of mecha. Also the animation...

Watched Death Note all the way through but didn't keep it. File under entertaining but not something I know for sure I'd ever want to watch again.
