Too bad the song suffers from dynamic compression....... : (
It really is! It's one of my favorite anime this season along with Aldnoah Zero and SAO.
Heeey, welcome to the thread! We really talk about anything here, so things may move quickly. : p

Yup... bought the Fuji when everyone's sleeping. If I don't like it I'll prob just return it. Amazon.cn prob has the same policy as in the states :>

The D7100 is the competitor to the Rebel T5i, no?

From my experience, I like how Canon's colour tuning is more natural-looking compared to the more green/yellow hue of Nikon's. I also greatly prefer Canon's grip and button placement compared to those of Nikon, especially since I have small hands; Canon places the shutter button at an angle (more ergonomic since your finger is naturally at an angle) and has a deeper thumb grip whereas Nikon places the shutter button vertically and has a shallow thumb grip.

I decided to wear my retainer after jot wearing it for over a year......my teeth feel like they're falling off now. >.>

I think the D7100 and the 70D go head to head?

I also thought that if I went mirrorless, I would probably take my camera around more?

I can't speak much to the other cameras mentioned in the thread but the D7100 is a damned nice one. I have the D7000 and it's one hell of a camera. Get yourself a nice 35mm lens before a 55mm. You'll almost assuredly use the 35mm more often since it's more versatile than a 55mm. Then if you want, you can pair it with a nice 55-200mm for a killer combo. And to make the camera more comfortable/convenient I'd also recommend looking into a battery grip. It gives the camera more body on the bottom so the hand rests more comfortably and also provides a second shutter button so you can take portrait shots more easily. Extra battery life + comfort + ease of use.

I'm in the market for a few camera accessories myself. Contemplating getting a new bag and flash for mine.

Yea, that was the plan before someone corrupted me with the idea of getting a mirrorless.

Didn't the G3 technically come out first?

Why not just get the 7100 with the kit lens 18-55mm, then get some more lenses like the 35mm f/1.8 and maybe a macro lens as well? That should just about be $2k and you'll have plenty of lenses to cover everything you'll probably need.

Yup Yup.... I gave into hype tho. We'll see.

I'm watching the Hunger Games 2 and Haymitch reminds me a lot of Snow from Final Fantasy XIII.

I can't even do midrange anymore. At least, not at the rate my phone is dying. Poor 808 PV, I've pushed you too much. If it's not going to the grave this fast, I could've waited a bit more and save for some lower midrange phones.

That said though, the Xiaomi Mi3 can be had at $250 (all instances of price is Google-converted from MYR), but only limited to 16GB. I've tried 16GB once before on my OG Nexus 7, and it's not enough. At least when I get into custom ROM and titanium backup and all. And that's just the tablet, used for only anime and no music files. On a phone, I'll be putting lots of it, and lazy old me won't encode my .flac into .mp3, so 16GB won't be enough along with anime and games. Sure, I can go streaming (I should be able to fit in a CR sub in my wages lol), but not with abysmal data caps.

My utmost limit would be $300 or thereabouts. Straight conversion of MYR1000 is US$311, but that's stupid. I won't budge my budget.

There's some good choice. Like said before there's the Mi3, but not even through scalpers, the 64GB still remains missing. So, no go. I'm avoiding all Mediatek phones like the plague. So that leaves me with snapdragon 400 devices. Moto G is an option, but 4.5 inches is okay, but again no SD card. Although 4.5" will limit the kind of games I'll play on it. There's the LTE version with the card slot, but 8GB internal? No.

There's the various "mini" versions of flagships. LG G2 mini is 4.7", IIRC it has a card slot too. But, IIRC, the community support is kind of small. Sony's Xperia Z1 Compact almost made it into my budget if I bought through a grey importer, but as exciting as that would be... no. They are practically priced in the midrange officially now, same as the Z1 now with the Z2 is officially on the market. There's the S4 mini. *shrug*

There's the Xperia T2 Ultra official, and Z Ultra grey.m, but .... they're ******* huge. I've tried pocketing them in stores, and combined with their squareness, I'll have torn trousers pockets in no time. Or at least very unsightly corners bulging.

There's the Xperia M2, but reviews says how much the speakers suck, and I need to here it ring in my pocket. I don't think there's much community support either.

The Samsung Note 2 is an option, grey.m of course. It's Samsung though, both the positives and negatives. +: stylus, and there are third party apps made for it. -: Touchwiz, but then that's what ROMs are for. Slimy plastic though, and while a case will help, it won't when it adds bulk to a bulky phone. I don't know. And it's old. It's veeeery slightly out of my budget but maybe I can stretch it. Slippery slope.

OnePlus One, but through scalpers. And the only real choice to settle for, despite having told to never settle HMM ONEPLUS I will never live this down ever, is the 64GB, and it's $100 over budget.

The Nexus 5 and the LG G2. Both have 32GB max, both are slightly overbudget, and I'm not sure if 32GB will suffice when I start tinkering. The N5 has abysmal battery life so I'm told, but of course it's a Nexus, so every geek and their friends have one. The G2 has a substantial community support too being a was-flagship and all. So the stock eldritch ROM can be culled away pretty easily. I'm just not sure if 32GB will be enough. Another slippery slope if I increase my budget.

There's the Xperia Z. I don't know... old models is a compromise I have to make if I want "flagships". But.... I don't know. Community support is substantial like the G2, so there's that.

There's Lenov- **** them.

There's Noki- no, **** them. I rather wait not-MS Nokia brings out an Android device later next 2 years or something like that.

Only other thing that intrigues me now is Asus' Zenfones. Mainly the 5 and 6. Intel Atom chip, so....................................... but reviews all says it's on par, if not surpassing the snapdragon 400 in real life feels if not in benchmarks. The gimmick for them though is their Pixelmaster camera: pitch black environment, no flash, can take a picture as if there's very dim ambient lighting.

WHAT MAGIC IS THIS??? This is almost satanic. Local forums though reports kind of okay battery life, and of course the chipset being x86, some apps aren't compatible (Facebook apps for example. No loss no tears shed).
Newly arrived though is the Zenfone 5 LTE, and it uses the snapdragon 400, since Intel don't have support for LTE. They have a bunch of models with 8GB and 16GB, the official Intel models have the CPU clocked at 1.6GHz, while grey.m ones are at 2.0GHz. Snapdragon 400 ones is 1.2GHz according to GSMArena. There's card slot though, and Asus have that app2SD thing. Don't know if that'll work with Kitkat, which is what the LTE version is on.

So yeah. Non-budgeable budget, which takes a lot of discipline. And I'm really interested in the Asus Zenfones because satanic camera.

Price reference: http://www.lelong.com.my/merchant/Default.asp?show=List&T=&TheKeyword=&MerchantCategory=&UserID=directd&p1=500&p2=1000 increase in, say, a couple hundreds MYR could mean I'm not eating lunch for two weeks a month at work.
Storage. Looking at what I'm doing now with my 808 PV, I'm almost always at full capacity. 16 + 16. The card is almost always full of music and videos. The internal is full of 8MP photos and occasionally 1080p videos. Given a larger capacity, I will surely fill it as fast as possible lol.

Other things that affects price point: a car (goddam fossil fuels); getting the NVIDIA SHIELD tablet; getting a battlestation with a compatible, not **** GTX card to stream to Shield tablet; a better router/whatever to stream for the Shield tablet; might get kicked out of parents' house so there's going to be rent later on; QOL upgrade for laptop such as SSD and maybe new battery(???); new M43 lens ;_; .

Just took a look at the Xiaomi Mi3. And ....it pretty much falls behind in every area compared to OPO. But different countries, phone costs, and availability is something I understand.

Lenovo makes phones!!?! :basshead:

Just took a look at the new Zenfone 5........their product page makes me want to puch them. They think I'm stupid. they are literally pulling/pushing comparisons of crap that is years old. Seriously every single one of them is of stuff that isn't even here today. And the screen one....pushing uber 1280x720 screen with 294ppi uber resolution.......ASUS. ....no. I am not stupid. I know my numbers and realize you are pretty much jipping me.

Yep...and it is pretty much the fastest flagship/worldwide phone on the market as of right now. There obviously probably is a Chinese local available phone that is faster or is a phablet.....but well its not available easilly etc etc so I'll just leave that to the OPO.

And yeah, out of all the phones that Jgray listed above....they pretty much don't hold a candle to the OPO. The Zenfone pretty much markets itself to 3 year old technology and the Xiaomi Mi3 pretty much is behind in every area while at approx the same price point (and not being available yet in USA)

Yeah, I know right? Hahaha

Wait, you just now dropped it twice? Knock on wood I haven't dropped mine once yet.
I thought the 64GB one was $400? $350 for the 64GB would be an absolute steal.

1440p phone screens. Don't understand why. It's not as if I have a habit of looking at my phone from 2" away.

My phone is old. Only has a 720p 4.5" screen. A 128GB Micro SDXC card mean igaf about storage capacity limited though :P

@EveTan, hey no worries. Now you got a poor man's Leica! biggrin.gif

@bowei006, for a "smart person" you got too worked out on Asus' marketing material. It's budget tier. Before 20134 budget tiers are downright ****'s ****. Come the Moto G, and then others, it's less **** now. Hell, even pretty good.

But then again, I'm still very miffed at OnePlus' stupid "NEVER SETTLE" marketing so there's that. Unless you have an extra OPO invite and you cover the shipping to you then to me. :P $400 is a lot, but 16GB is too few. The Zenfone 5 is fine. Well, battery will be utter dogcrap, but still. Dat satanic blackmagik camera though.

@Tangster, hey man, I wish it's easy for me too, but I've tasted blood (pretty high end phones) before, and it's pretty awesome. It's hard going down to watered blood substitute.

Yeah I know I did. I just felt it as a personal blow to my own intelligence. The ASUS marketing stuff.

One Plus One's marketing campaigns are also paradoxes. They declared open-ness in how they worked.....but are not that open. Their ads made it SEEM like the former VP of OPPO(new CEO of OnePlus) had no connections at OPPO anymore. took a little bit of digging by a few people to find out OPPO was a huge financial backer of OnePlus.

Just wondering why you want a budget tier smartphone? Do you not like contracts or are they not available in your country? The $199 w/ contract deal?
