Groovy! The iPod Classic is what I have (getting the iBasso DX90 soon). I recently Rockboxed it and was surprised how much more clear it sounds; unfortunately, it's a little sibilant and gives me a headache. I haven't attempted effectively working with the EQ. Just altering the basic bass and treble settings makes it sound too muffled/distorted.
If your profile is accurate, I would recommend you forcus on getting better headphones rather than DAPs.

A much more effective way of getting better sound.

Yeah, I'm getting the Focal Spirit Professional along with it. But look at my crazy wish list! I'm no stranger to the allure of high-end audio gear.

Don't like the Focal Pro line much. Prefer B&O H6

One advice after hearing anything from R10, K1000 to Orpheus. Never judge by price and trust other's ear. Listen firsthand before you buy when possible.

Hm, I haven't researched that model yet. What do you like about the H6 over the FSP? I wanted to go for a neutral and balanced sound.

Here is a post by someone who strongly prefers the FSP. I'm sure I could find many more in time.

Good advice. What are your top 5 favorite headphones, and why?

You mean the total price of it all put together? I mentioned at the end that it's over a million dollars worth of audio gear...and on the next page, I showed an extreme example of a pair of speakers that are even more than that.

Obviously, I would rather have just one or two systems optimized for maximum sound quality; the rest of the list is about variety and the idea of having it all.

My dream systems (only counting the headphones and amp) would be the Abyss AB-1266 + Woo Audio WA234 MONO and the STAX SR-007/SR-009 + HeadAmp Blue Hawaii SE. The Orpheus is pretty dreamy as well, but difficult to find.

Amazing build and looks aside:
It has a slightly more prominent bassline than the FSP, but boy does it do it well. It's slightly centric soundstage also makes it rather special, give it a intimate sound, along with a very detailed midrange it. Treble is no detail monster, which I can see being a deal-breaker for some.

That's cool, but doesn't make me want it more than the FSP. I've heard very impressive things about it, especially from M-13.

Dooh, had I known you were into this stuff earlier, I would have posted this.
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/geek-wave-it-s-not-a-next-gen-ipod-it-s-a-no-compromise-portable-music-player#geeksource

And they were offering the LightSpeed cable at $700 in their previous campaign*:

*I still might be able to get it for around that price

Another advice is to read a glorifying review of the gear before you actually listen to it. It'll improve the item's actual sound by + 500 placebo points :3.  (that was sarcasm btw, really hope no one lives their audio lives like this :<)

The Light Harmonic Da Vinci Source (the Geek Source's big brother) is already on my wish list.

I love the orange color of the LightSpeed cable! The Synergistic Research Galileo LE USB cable beat it in at least one review I read - not to mention the more-insanely-priced cables I'm curious about.

The fact that you didn't know I was "into this stuff" means that my signature isn't attention-grabbing enough. :/

hehe, there's no way I would spend thousands of dollars on an audio component without hearing it first.

Don't worry, if you buy the $120,000 Light Harmonic Sire DAC, they will throw in a free LightSpeed cable, at their expense. :p
