Sounds like something that could run of a lemon battery.  Wish I had the money to update my PC, but I'm quite thankful it can still max most games.  The power of the first gen i7 with dual 5850s is hard to deny, but my room turns into an oven on gaming days.  Not even long ones.

I'm mainly playing indie games these days so my trusty old 275GTX and the still okay-ish AMD X4 955 are good enough for my needs.

Just for kicks and giggles. TBH this summer I'm hoping I can get my hands on a new rig w/ a single slot 750Ti and try to design a small case for it because the Alienware Alpha has caught my full attention. They say everything is upgradable except the motherboard and GPU, and we know for the GPU that it's probably a custom 750 Ti (just speculation but it's the most likely IMO). This makes me really want to try to make a computer just as small but completely upgradeable.

Problem w/ the PicoPSUs is that I'm worried about the power consumption under load. 160W is pushing it and the actual 12V rail max is 96W if I remember correctly which means you have to stay at manufacturer stated TDPs all the time. Bit-Tech's review got 174W load w/ Uniengine Valley which was their GPU only (little CPU stress) test and that's already pushing it (although this was an i5). TFX or Server PSUs are much more powerful but also much larger.

Higher wattage PicoPSUs perform very poorly from what I remember reading at JonnyGuru.

To be honest I've gotten bored of video games on PC. The only ones I enjoy are some nice looking games that aren't graphically intensive (FEZ, Element4l, The Floor is Jelly, Bit Trip Runner 2, etc.). This rig would also still be more powerful than my A10 Trinity build.

I could try a Kaveri APU build w/ PicoPSU but that sort of defeats the "challenge the Alienware Alpha" motive.

I wish.

I'd up the wattage on the PSU to be safe.

Then again you see steambox manufacturers getting these 780s and higher working on a CX430. O.O

Really now? I guess I'm not up to date on my steamboxes. If I had to guess, I'd say they just screw with people and underclock the GPU something fierce, but I don't think that's likely.

Not even close. I know the guys in the thread are making the Tenores sound like the best thing since sliced bread, but from someone who's had it for over a year since it's initial mention in the Discovery thread, I find it good, especially for something that costs $30, but it won't take on any Flagships.

I'm really liking the LN. Such twists and turns.

I liked it right up till the end, which decided to go a completely different direction from give no fcks feel of the series. That part I hated.

I've had both DITAs and the Tenore. I wouldn't say "not even close", not in a heart beat. I actually sold both DITAs after I got the Tenore simply cause I don't find the performance of the DITAs to be in any way worth the premium over the Tenore. And I say that as someone who LOVES the DITA.
