Happy birthday Joe-sensei!

Boy, you sure have a lot of text next to your avatar, have a good one! :p

I'm really digging Knights of Sidonia, I've read the manga but I like the anime more because I can actually tell the characters apart now, they all look the same in the manga and I'm no good with names.

Or maybe I've become a dumb dumb because anime usually has very distinct characters, with their bright coloured hair and what not...

DSLRs are quite intimidating indeed. A full year after owning mine, I'm just starting to feel that I can effectively use it... Sort of. I still can't take a pro-quality photo to save my life but at least I know how to use the thing a bit now.

My RX100 can do most things a normal DSLR can do. I don't think I really "mastered" my camera, but I'm not too far off from that, I think.
Only difference is that I don't have to worry about lenses and all the problems/possibilities they bring with them.

I don't really think having a removable lens has any downsides, other than if you're an idiot and misplace it.

That being said, that lens on the RX100 looks pretty good to where you really don't need another lens.

No, I'll not glue egg cartons to my walls.

take a look at these, there are many more like them, i haven't used them but ive heard good things about their isolation properties

Oooh, thanks for that link! I might be picking some of those up later as well.

I didn't use a tripod this time around, and I was quite surprised at how well they turned out. You can even see the surface of the moon!

Therefore, I shall observe Seattle from afar in the safety of democracy. XD

As well as seeing the sun set.

Wow, that lens must have pretty good optical image stabilization to get that much detail offhand!

More than okay for me :|

Well with problems I mean that they are rather expensive (if you want something decent), not all models fit on all cameras, there are so many special ones that I would want (...) aaaaand if you really want to make use of all of them you have to carry them around in a huge bulky bag or whatever.
Not cool.
I thought about buying a macro filter for my camera!

Kawaii²

It's soooooo blatant.
But I mean....how could she not fall in love with Mr. Perfect?

Question being which one, first?

I don't really have a favourite focal length, other than my want for better photos of my nendos and Yukarin figma (soon...). I value compactness more, that's why I am going for the oly 25 (okay fine price is a bigger factor). Dropping the pana 20 because of the reported slow focus and potential colour banding on oly bodies, but also think that 20mm is just weird. I am still thinking about oly's weird body cap lens(es) for ultimate compactness sacrificing IQ.

So yeah, want some advice.

PROTIP: m43 crop factor is 2x.

Get the 25 f1.8 first, you'll be able to use it for pretty much everything day to day. When I went to Japan, the 25mm f1.4 was the only lens I used, I didn't get the kit lens with my camera, and it was perfect for most situations. It's also liberating having the fast aperture, you'll be able to shoot in a lot more low light situations.

The 14 f2.5 kinda overlaps with the kit lens, it's not particularly fast so all you'll be gaining over the kit is the compactness and a little better IQ.

The 45 f1.8 will get you shallower depth of field if you want to isolate your nendos against the backgrounds, but it still won't get you any closer than the 25mm will (similar magnification factors). I think the 45mm is a little too tight for street use, it's only really suitable for portraits, so it depends on your preferences.

Here's a full sized nendo shot with the the PL 25mm f1.4 as close as I could get, and I think it's usable unless you're looking to do super detailed macro shots. The oly should be able to get a tiiiny bit closer.

Hmm, maybe I'll save a bit and not get the 14mm pancake, since it's not terribly faster, and save to get that panaleica 25mm. Needs to go to a shop soon-ish to compare both 25mm.
There won't be a need for super detailed macro shots (yet). :P

Well I thought that the 45mm is for later when I need a narrower (?) focal length, but I guess that's a long way still, in my mind. Hmm, I guess the plan now is to get a 25mm, then some time soon something wider than 14mm, then something narrower.

A non-removable lens can do more within the same size and weight constraints than a removable lens.
