In my quest to complete every Kyoani-produced series, I finished Air over the weekend. Next I have Sora o Miageru Shōjo no Hitomi ni Utsuru Sekai and I'll have seen them all.

I hadn't watched Air becuse if features the Key derpy-eyes character designs I hate so much. I'm a trooper though, so just like Kanon a few months back, I plunged into Air. Air actually had a much more polished feel to me than Kanon, even though it was done first. The direction was very good and I thought a lot of the emotional scenes were quite well done.

Where this series really fell short for me was the plot and it's non-linearity. I understand that it's not easy covering multiple routs from a VN and Air had some peculiar needs to fill out the back story, but covering a couple of routs, then flashing back to feudal Japan for about 4 episodes (1/3 of the entire show) felt really disjointed and a little unnecessary. They could have covered that stuff in one episode pretty easily. After that, we are returned to the present, but by then I had lost interest in this show. It's a real shame too because I was enjoying it until about the mid point.

I also went to a big otaku store the next morning but every<thing they sold there was so bloody expensive....Haruhi artbook for €46....

You glorious piece of soup.

On another note, the TV series release of Break Blade is doing good the first few minutes. The music is justice.

So I have an Asus ML248. When going side by side with the retina display vs it, the macbook definitely looks more crisp. I am a nooblet with things like this, so I assume this issue is just because my monitor is only 1080p resolution while the retina display is higher? Or is it still 1080p on the mac, just higher density?

I've been trying to use my deskspace to its full potential. Although my large monitor is more comfortable to use, it is also less crisp. Oh well.

Also, I was wondering, anyone have recommendations for cable management? for a laptop to desktop setup.

Also #2, my Project H unit seems to be a bit loose with it's usb socket at the back... It keeps disconnecting/cutting out one channel for the sound.

Quantity isn't always quality. Same stuff.

Higher density, higher pixels doesn't equal higher quality.

Most monitors generally, can not compare to the stuff Apple uses if you just buy a general monitor.

The metal may have warped. Check, and use problem solving skills to get it a nice tight fit again I guess

Sounds like another example of a mediocre VN adaptation.
That stuff really is hard to pull off correctly.

Oh it sure was!
I stayed in the same hotel as all the musicians and Uematsu (I think he slept one floor above me!) and I almost got my artbook thing signed by him this morning when he was in the foyer but alas, he had to get his flight....

Watched the first two episodes of Ghost Hunt.
Man, this seems to be some kind of hidden gem (if you count #366 on MAL as hidden)!

The characters are interesting, it got some nice jokes, a really strong mystery vibe and is even a bit spooky/scary/creepy from time to time!

It's from 2006 but kind of looks like it got released simultaneously with NGE :P
Might just be my weird 4:3 480p stream though....sometimes, but only sometimes, torrenting sounds so tempting.....

Oh and the OP and the ED are pretty cool and fitting. Rather unusual stufff :P

Did you watch Air in Summer yet? That was my favorite arc because it took place in feudal Japan and whatnot.

Definitely because of the pixel count. Not only is the retina display smaller, but the resolution is something like 2880x1800 compared to your montior that is 1920x1080 and is larger. If you want a higher pixel density monitor, the only way to go is up to a 27" 1440p monitor from Monoprice for about $400 or so, but the "retina" displays on Apple laptops will always look crisper than desktop panels.

Have you tried another USB cable with it?

Bowei, hold up a sec and do some math.

24" monitor, 1920x1080. That's ~92PPI.

Retina display macbook, 2880x1800 at 15.6" That's ~221PPI

Of course the one with more than double the pixel density of the other one is going to be more crisp...

Okay, Ghost Hunt is not just a bit spooky.
I'll hit the sheets now

@MechG: Yes I watched the Summer OVA thing, I found it quite boring, I think I was fed up with the characters by then.

Another thing to consider is what type of display it is. Next to an IPS, a TN panel looks like crap to me, even if they are both 1080P. My 1440P Dell sits next to an IPS 1080P LG and while the Dell does look sharper, it's not as big a difference to my eyes as the change from TN to IPS.

@TYG: Don't be a scardy cat!

I wasn't talking about cirspiness in general but in that quantity of numbers doesn't always equal better crispiness or anything really.

Take a very schitty 720p TV (one of the people in my dorm has something like it). And take one of dem old CRT's without any physical pixels and set that 852/480 (approx 16:9) to even 7 and put some nice schiit on it. The 480p is guaranteed to look more. Because seriously, that schiit 720p TV I'm talking about is the definition of near schiit. It's not even calibrated wrong or anything, it just sucks.

The controls are pretty good. My mistake was flying it in a very very small room. I took it down to the basement and it flew like a champ.....
