Watched Mekakucity Actors. I actually like it.
No idea why some of you guys are comparing it to Bakemonogatari and the like -- it's completely different. In fact, so far I think I like it better.

Then again, like many of these SHAFT animes, they tend to turn out rather boring half way through despite the top-notch animation in my opinion.

I plan on going to graduate school and getting a PhD afterwards. Of course at some point in my life I need to focus on getting a 'real' job and entering business life. But at the moment I have almost zero interest in that, and I feel I better be doing what I do best.

Also, I have decided not to aim for GPA 4.0 but rather for maximizing university credits (right now it's like 3.7 in fact orz). I have thought about this for some time, and discussed it with my tutor and adviser. People tend not to care about the grades you got as an undergraduate when you have a graduate degree. And it's easier to do a graduate degree well if you have a firm and broad basis, rather than having focused on a few subjects and got really high grades for that.

Maybe I'm just being greedy going only for what I like doing, but then again, living the life that would maximize my future income could be even more greedy. In the end I'd value a fun job way more than a well paid job (though I won't mind having both). I think research is just exactly the thing that really fits me, but I know I will probably think about this differently 5-10 years from now.

It seems like you're getting the most out of university in terms of opportunities, connections and useful experience for later life. While it seems like I'm trying to get the most out of university in terms of knowledge, analytic skills and research skills. The latter two definitely open up a lot of opportunities for many companies, but maybe not as much as having real life experience.

And hey, maybe I'll just end up fossilizing in academics and become a professor someday.
...
But it used to be legal! We had legal illegal downloading (admittedly a contradictio in termines), but now it's gone. I have no idea why the EU has enough power to pull this off, though.
Perhaps the EU is getting to much legislative power. The whole economic integration thing of the EU is good (especially if we disregard Greece and the likes for a second), but I don't know about giving the EU too much political power. I just do not see the benefits of that, to be honest.

I just hope I can keep it up.

The life experience it does provide is one of getting off your butt and doing work. Initiative, time management etc. That kind of stuff

Glad to see you are doing what you personally like. But academic style research gives me a bit of cancer.

This is still your first year in university, right?

Well atleast both of you got something useful out of university life.....
I spent a year studying electronics just to find out that I actually don't like studying electronics and that I learn much better by myself.

I ended up skipping 70% of my classes this semester and doing my own independent learning / projects.

Planning to transfer over to the computer engineering dept to see what's it like over there.

Yeah, you learn a lot in College. But skipped 70% of classes? How are your grades? You wouldn't get a good grade here in most classes but thats just what I know about the grading.

yay, come over to Comp Enge

Well, time management and discipline are most certainly things I have learned. That's something you just have to learn out of necessity once you have a high workload.

I skip classes too! I skip almost all of my physics classes.

Just got myself a power strip with surge protector from Belkin... Now let's see if it helps my SQ (since I plug in a tube amp)

+1, coming from a college student that almost got owned by 4 modules with project component (4 of them group, one of them having an individual project component too), and a module for year 4 students (I am in year 3)

Wait...what?

What tube amp do you use?

The D03K is FiiO's DAC meant for use on TV sets. It's not something you want to use for audiophile audio if you had a choice. As in had money to buy a DAC and what not and not just found the D03K.

Although it is possibly better than nothing.

New HL1 speedrun (segmented) world record - 20:41. About 9 minutes shorter(!) from the previous record

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtI5HM7GVGY (includes 60 and 120 FPS recordings of the run DL links in the description)

Then again, I skip classes if either it saves a lot of traveling time, e.g. if I only have 2 hours of lectures in an entire day, then I won't bother coming,
or if it overlaps with another course. The latter is pretty much the reason why I've been skipping all my physics courses lately. Since I do to many extra courses, there's always a math course overlapping with my physics course. (I only do one physics course per term, and multiple math courses :P)
