While I was scarce around here I managed to finish Steins;gate. I did my best to stifle my expectations for this well hyped and well known series, and I am very good at avoiding spoilers, so I didn't really know what to expect going in.
This series has a beautiful art style, a great OST, and very well developed characters that all hold their own as individuals. To me, this was an accomplishment as there were actually quite a few fairly deep back stories that needed to be fleshed out and I think it was handled well. It's amazing how many series fall on their faces just trying to juggle more than 5 primary characters.
My main sticking point with this series all centered around Kyouma. I found his personality grating, and being the main character, it really was a drag on my experience watching the show. I understand that he basically has chuunibyou, but I cannot tell if I disliked him because of the voice actor, the happens-too-often overdramatics, or the fact that I can't buy his character design as being a 19 year old (he acts 19 emotionally, but looks about 27 to me).
I give lots of leeway to anything with time-paradoxes, but there were a lot of "If you're so smart you should have known better" moments from both Kyouma and Makise. That kind of stuff just frustrates me for some reason lol. All in all, it was quite entertaining, and I don't blame MechG for liking it so much. If I liked Kyouma, I have no doubt I would be much more favorable in my review.
