I'm curious, how does a string dissipate energy? I'm trying to think of an experiment I can use with strings. Have to present a theoretical proof of a certain phenomenon and have to experimentally prove that...

It converts movement into sound pressure waves; or contact through the instrument itself I think.

As in a guitar/violin string and such?  I imagine that it dissipates energy according to how it vibrates.  I suppose that you would calculate the energy of each partial/mode of the string's vibration, and they are each double the frequency of the prior.  Some of the energy goes into the air, creating vibrations of air particles (sound), and some would go into the solid object(s) the hold the string in place to allow the steady vibrations to occur in the first place.

String...? what material and how is it used?

Welp now that I finished gave up playing ToToNo (stuck on 3rd playthrough), might as well start my next game :p

Bloody Rondo

Pretty annoying how VNDB doesn't have a character section for this game....

Have to read the character settings from the official site in japanese...

"Collaboration" of the year.
The instruments sound playback as hell.

I never understood why the people here like to use the most goddam complex words they could find to express the same thing simple english could. It's ridiculous.

I think there's a balance between not sounding like a prick who uses a lot of complex words, and not just using the simplest English all the time either, because it can be pretty inefficient and redundant at times.

Dang, the text looks small even on a note 2!

That looks like some proper sushi! The wasabi not so much.

What's wrong with the wasabi?

I went with a friend from Japan and he said this was the most authentic sushi he's had in the states so far, so I'm assuming it's legit. :L3000:

Maybe, if you were a bit more specific about the issue?

Prepare yourself; there are over a bajillion references to other anime in Lucky Star.

I counted at least 10 blatant references to Haruhi too. XD

Lol... You should add the characters to VNDB yourself!

There is nothing "wrong" with it. It just looks less authentic than all the other things there.

Totally my kind of humor ^o^

Energy dissipation in such phenomena is usually way too difficult to work with experimentally.

I think it's caused by the fact that locally you're stretching and compressing small 'pieces' of string over and over, just because of friction this will cause energy to be lost to heat. There is also air friction, but I think that's not your main problem.

If you can get a stroboscope you can investigate the relationship between tension and natural mode frequency. That's a pretty well known relationship you can either deduce or look up (depending on your understanding of continuum mechanics :P). It also makes for a good experiment.

I actually did an exercise today where I had to derive the equations of motion of a string in two dimensions. It's pretty fun actually. (if done in a proper rigorous mathematical way that is, if you use arguments of local infinitesimal stretching I die a little inside)

Woah, hold the phone!

I was just listening to my favorite classic radio station when they played a Sony spot.
A spot in which they advertised the ZX1 :basshead:
Pleasantly surprised.

I suck at writing job applications.
I'm a pretty modest person so presenting myself as if I'm some kind of demi-god is totally rubbing me the wrong way.
