I don't keep up with this thread because the amount of people who post here and the frequency of the postings is absolutely *insane,* but chiming in to give my opinion on some new anime I've been watching anyways:

Space Dandy: Not really feeling this one. Granted, it's only been a few episodes, and it does have some great things going for it (the action scenes, and that sequence at the end of episode 2 with the old ramen alien), but otherwise I don't think it's particularly funny or likable--it's saving graces are its style and its high energy. I'm hoping that as it goes on my opinion will improve, or I'll adjust to it.

Flowers of Evil: No idea how to even approach rating or discussing this one--it leaves me very conflicted, but in all the right ways. I haven't felt this strongly about an anime since... Paranoia Agent? Really looking forward to a re-watch or three. If nothing else, I think it's probably the most bold anime series I've seen in years, and that's really worth something. I'm going to be absolutely crushed if it doesn't get a second season, or if it doesn't get a proper English-language release. My hopes aren't high on either front, given the largely negative reaction I see this show getting among anime fans. I really think there might be room in my top 10 for this though--we'll see.

Attack on Titan: Yeah, I'm just now getting around to watching it... and I have to say, I don't know if I'm going to be able to finish it or not. And I wish I could say that it was because the Titans terrify me too much (they do), but my reasons have more to do with the show's pacing, frequent lack of animation, annoying characters, and the direction's complete lack of subtlety or finesse. In many ways it reminds me of shonen 'fight' anime, which, for the record, I largely cannot stand. It's got that same awful pacing (at this point I'm honestly thinking that this could have been a thirteen-episode show, and I'm on episode ten), complete disregard for dramatic build-up (episode-long flashback right in the smack-dab of far more fascinating material? Check!), and the fact that the inherent drama simply isn't allowed to stand on its own --no, it's gotta be amped up with ridiculously over-the-top music and speed lines and yelling and tears and etc. etc. etc. It's just too much, and frequently approaches comedy. (Everything that Armin does totally saps my will to take the show seriously.) It brings back memories of Death Note (which, not coincidentally, is from the same series director): amazing premise, annoying execution. I'll try and finish it just so that I can stay in the loop, and I am genuinely hoping that it gets better, but after the last couple of episodes I really just feel like calling it quits.

I also recently finished Maid Sama! and Story of  Saiunkoku, and didn't much care for either. Which is too bad in Saiunkoku's case because I think it's got a lot of potential--it was just so *boring* and predictable. I've recently re-watched Welcome to the NHK (slightly less great this time around, but still pretty damn fine), and am working my way through re-watches of Tatami Galaxy (amazing) and Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine, which is at least top 20 material.

Doubt I'll be trying to keep up with this thread, so if you wanna talk anime with me shoot me a PM. ^^

Episode 2 of Space Dandy was very good. I have no opinion that is above average on episodes 1 and 3. Those episodes however, are building up episodes. You can tell that.

But for the most part, my 3rd party view utilizes a type of ethics that John Rawls wished for. Because having no morality is at the same time not good. As then, you wouldn't be analyzing things. A 3rd party person without any personal beliefs is boring. They would just think everything was interesting and nothing mattered. I do believe that to a sense, but my earthly emotions and morals will and do play into my 3rd party self. In the sense that I strive to be more of a historian than a watcher.

John Rawls theory of justice's main point that I like was the VEIL OF IGNORANCE. Before I go into what it is with a short summary, do note that it is of course very impossible to do 24/7, and he recognizes this, but he mearley proposes it as one of the most objective ways to work stuff out.

But basically, the Veil of Ignorance is where the views, and analysis of a person that they are making should be handled in a state in where you know NOTHING about yourself. You don't know what gender, race, nationality, sex etc etc about yourself. You are then given the question or situation that has been proposed. And you must make an opinion or answer to it. You don't know what gender or race or nationality you are, so in this state. Your vote, and opinion will be very thoughtful. You have to consider the pro's and real con's of each question. And this basically will help against bias, and promote a better world. Example would be woman suffrage(voting) in the 20's to 40's and later in the USA. You put a politician into the state of ignorance. They don't know who they are anymore or anything about their personal identity. They don't know if they are male or female, and so their opinion will be a 'real' one in where they must weigh the pro's and con's of passing the right for women to vote based off a 'real' truth that they believe in. Rawls believed that people should think of situations like this when possible. This is a bit faulty in the real world appliance as many can tell.

that is the type of ethics I try to use in my 3rd party view. In where I attempt to blind myself of my identity and place and focus on stuff that is righteous to a country or world.

The basic principle sounds nice but is hardly practicable.
For example, how are you planning on making a decision as a person who doesn't know anything about him/herself? Last time I checked, every living thing is making decisions based on past experiences. Experiences you won't remember once you are under this veil.

I'm fine with my set of ethics and I think I share quiet a lot of them with the majority of the worlds population.

Quite the helpful tool right there... especially for an engineer? Don't know what I'd doe with that

But say if you had a touch screen computer that could do the same things, would you still have to get one of those?

Pilot's Love Song or uber long name has the nice old feels to it. Apparently nina and claire have the same seiyuu. What if they're the same person :basshead:

It's not meant to be practical is the thing. Ethics philosophers are just these types. They create maxims and moral theories that may not be practical in all cases.

I forgot to mention that its not NOTHING about himself. But rather just the stuff that would cloud your thought in that situation.

No I wouldn't. My class required EITHER you buy a new Tablet computer $1100+ of spec or you buy the $70-$90 Wacom Tablet. I chose the later.  I got the semi better version($20 more). The CTH 480 rather than the CTL 480. Mainly because the CTH has a more advanced pen with a digital eraser, and because it has 'hand' multi touch support.
