Really don't like camping games though. Whenever I play any FPS and the match turns into a camp game, I just do wtv or essentially RQ. Not my type of stuff, I like running and shooting.

:D

And my absence from this thread (and HF) is completely due to playing kancolle like an idiot at times.

According to my cousin I already got a few really rare ships that most people spend months to get.

I guess, including Shimakaze, Hiryuu, Kumano

Meanwhile still never found Fubuki. I started with Inazuma and keep getting Miyuki... only to find out Inazuma rammed and sunk Miyuki during practice IRL xD

Lately just leveling up the ships.

Super time consuming :S

Don't know why but it hurts my eyes.

Are you on NA East Server?

Camping, I'm ok with it, but WoT has a good mix for me :D

Kancolle? Dayum, you went hard with that.

Ramune tastes horrible btw.
Artificial as all hell.

I do love me some Suntory Highball... wish they sold some here.

I don't normally drink much alcohol or liquor so the real connoisseurs might sneer, but I like Suntory whiskey and... if I like it, that's really all that matters as far as I am concerned xP

Ramune, artificial?

What soft drink does not taste artificial?!

Yup, the whole bi-sexual part had a lot more meaning than one would think. Not just some yuri/yaoi fanservice nonsense.

The whole god and meerkat analogy was amazing. I think people noticed it at different times during the anime. I saw something like this coming pretty early because of the way the "Gods" were treating these poor creatures. But the way these creatures "evolved" was such an amazing and frightening thing to watch!

Huh... SSY sexual orientation during growth...

meanwhile an slightly older anime called Simoun basically had children all be born as girls, then reached a certain age they must decide whether to become men or women.

I am.

Booted up Skype after a like 2 week hiatus... xD surprised; I thought I added you?! (since I'm no longer in the chat)

Still in tier 2 though. Taking it slowly, sorta.

Lol... I know. It's obsessive. In a really bad way. But as far as those ships/characters it was more a matter of being extremely lucky. Kind of like pokemon, you can find ships by drops and some are rare. But unlike pokemon you can also build ships with different amounts of material. Thing is, there's almost no set recipe, meaning nothing is 100% get _________. You'll get recipes that have high chances of battleships for example, but you can still get a common light cruiser out of it or etc.

Yeah, I left it when I had exams. Needed to be able to chat with a few ppl online, but didn't want to get distracted and/or bugged by the group. RQ'd it sorta.

lol I know, I guess I'm thorough or just not very good... Are you still on? going to log in now. Though I have zero clue how to play together etc.

Yup it's called Simoun. It's about airplanes too (or air ships or wtv...), and only children (before choosing a gender) can pilot them.

Good lord. I just played through some of Dust: An Elysian Tail on the bus and my gawd is it a friggin' AWESOME game. I can not believe this game was made by one guy, minus the voice acting and soundtrack. It's so friggin' beautiful!

Damn, you make me think I'm missing a bunch of metaphors (in that I haven't came up with any metaphors yet).

I posted a lot about SSY's metaphors before, but you probably didn't read them since they were all in spoiler tags, most of the metaphors dealt with

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

How SSY used a different social ideology without pushing it in people's faces. The different society and social values was shown nonchalantly and without much attention. This was ******* awesome. One of the largest examples being in the homosexual/bisexual, pre-maturity sexual urges along with some other things in society. Bi-sexual partners within the SSY group was extremely common. With lovers between almost everyone. The anime showed it, but didn't make it a big deal. The anime showed it as if those ideals were present in our current society (this is even more amazing considering the current society the anime is looking at countering is extremely conservative Japanese/Asian society). The anime showed those bisexual partners, and an idea of multiple partners. The more OMFG amazing part was when the anime somewhat showed that (and also made a huge counter attack at gay bigots) in the SSY society, they realize love, and reproduction to be different. The society there had lovers, but also realized males and females as necessary to have more offspring, this idea was a lot more hidden and had to be pieced together from different episodes.

The second biggest thing SSY did was in that they made the main characters and the society you saw...human in form. We as viewers are so accustomed to the idea that who we see on screen are humans just like us. Even in anime where the MC are aliens, we still perceive their actions as being those of ours and of our customs. SSY thus parodied this idea. The actual HUMANS in the anime were the meerkats. This was ingenius on levels beyond what I have seen in anime yet. The anime consintously re-inforced the humanlike gods to be 'humans' to us. The ideology change also wasn't so extreme. This is so the viewer doesn't immediately see the switcheroo that the series performed, in that we are weirded by what we see in that society, but huge alarm bells of them being truly different from us are aroused. The anime does give hints as the meerkats(the true represenatives of us humans) called the MC's gods. Anyway, we know this is true as we see a progression of Meerkat ability. The Meerkats, once fearful of the gods (who are human-form in the anime), soon developed abilities to lie, through evolution. Evolution in the anime being shown through squelear. Any biology person would know that most people don't know what evolution is. In short, evolution does not occur on a species, but on a population, and it does so through individual abnormal beings in that population. Squealer, and his intellect, thus representing evolution of the entire Meerkat population. The population undergoes differnt metaphors and types of thinking. They went from both the Queen Meerkat, and Meerkat obeing the Gods to an idea of a Democracy. And from that democracy, they soon started to build infrastructure, representation, and family units. Later on, they developed fire arms, and had land battles (of which the Gods would often 'look' and watch over the field as it was happening and sometimes cause 'stuff' to happen). The anime made it very apparent and gave various hints throughout the show, but it didn't try to make it super obvious. Anyway, in the very end, the meerkats(human represenatives) used the Gods against them, before the Gods punished the evolutionary hero, and blah blah. Obviously, this isn't canon of human history. But the end speech by Squealer was so good. It spoke of human qualms towards powers above them, towards represenatives, and the will of his people, of the struggles they had to overcome. The anime tried to make the idea of meerkats being human represenatives known through the last episode, in where it was asked, why they were shaped as naked mole rats (anther evolutionary idea they used), and the changes the Gods 'made' and put upon them, and other things about why they weren't created in the 'Gods' images.

These two are the 'largest' and most prevelant thems, metaphors, and ideological changes throughout the anime, but smaller ones obviously were here and there. Hell, it was everywhere, you can analyze everything. Ethics committee (metaphor to control systems and the pros and cons of those), to the familial unit and how its done in the show, to the school system and even the negative feedback system.

Please read this someone and have discussion with me on it? This took me a long time to write -_- , the SSY thing that is.

Anyway, it was genius

Yes, it was pretty brilliant.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
This is why the show reminded me a lot of "A Brave New World", because of the relative lack of sexual restrictions placed on people. This seems to be quite common in utopias/dystopias though, either as a right of the people (if they're not forced to) to love whoever they want whenever they want, or as a way to help subdue people (if they're forced to pick mates), because if all you're thinking about is love, you're not thinking about the crappy government. Now I'm not sure which one SSY is; it seems there are certain points when people have to "partner up" for group projects or whatever, but I'm not sure if there are deeper social implications there in that people are being "forced" to confess to the people they love or not.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
And yes, as Saki presumably marrying the guy at the end of the show, or at least having a baby implies, they do acknowledge that having offspring regardless of orientation is important.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Yep, that was damn brilliant. There were many times throughout the show where I thought the bakenezumi's progression was a lot like humanity's. I never expected it though. The shift from the queen to democracy definitely parallels most of our societies shifting from monarchies to democracies, especially in the 19th and 20th centuries. And of course, firearms and gunpowder and all that stuff. I'm not sure what the girl really represents though, other than possibly the fact that more and more humans are becoming atheist?

What the... Why is that three spoilers?

Default text editor isn't translating line breaks properly in spoilers. Hasn't been for a few weeks from memory.

I remember that happening to me with the rich text editor when writing a review. Frustrating as heck.
That's partially why I switched to the BB Code editor. tongue.gif

I want to know what really happened to Maria and Mamoru?

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Squealer/Yakomaru said that bakenezumi could replicate human remains from the skeletons of their taller deceased, due to the similarity.

Here's my theory albeit an unpleasant one.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Even if what he said is true doesn't mean he tells the truth and with his apparently suspicious way of talking, it probably was just a ruse.

Now I haven't watched SSY for a long time but I believe that later on after they find the bone remains they said that DNA traces from their remains confirmed to be Maria and Mamoru (am I right?)

Whatever it was, I would think that when Maria and Mamoru disappeared, the Bakenezumi kept tabs on them. A few years passes by, Maria gives birth to Mamoru's child. The Bakenezumi finds a way to put them in a compromising situation, they managed to kill Maria and Mamoru and took away their baby then to be raised by the Bakenezumi.

The remains are then put in a specific place so that people from the village can find it.

Now this is just a theory and it might be wrong, could be that they captured Maria and Mamoru, forces them to have a child and then kills them afterwards but that doesn't make sense since they can just escape easily with their powers.
