BOSE.....why does it get laughed at in the audiophile community? Are the products really that bad??? - Page 5

I have the Bose QC15 headphones, ultra comfortable amped out of an imod they remain my favourite portable headphones, nothing else comes close in terms of comfort and isolation.

The only issues are there home DVD systems are overpriced. Most of their headphones lack the quality to last a long time and are overpriced for how they sound. They are laughed at only because the mainstream believe they are of the highest quality.

You sure they are being laughed at? Or are they laughing with you because they got the mainstream suckered ;).

I think the main problem with Bose is that their marketing is much better than their products, much as crappy beer is all about perception and marketing.

Haven't heard them, but i'm really anxious to, every time i see them there isn't the option to listen to my own mp3 player. ^ lol srsly, how does that stuff get so popular? And the commercials are outright lies.

If they sold their boombox for $40 like a bunch of other companies then they wouldn't seem so terrible.

Which makes me wonder, would they be less terrible or more? Seems like people are perceiving them as being better since they cost so much, if you lowered their expectations maybe the placebo doesn't work as easily?? People don't have to justify the price tag to others and themselves so they are more likely to say "meh, they're ok"

Well I would think they wouldn't be so terrible because that's what that Wave thing is a boombox.

But with a $500-$600 price tag. If it cost the same as the ones you see at your local store of the Sony or RCA ones that cost $50 they wouldn't seem so bad.

But Bose sells this thing proclaiming it to sound like tower speakers which is just an insane fabricated lie.And a $3,000 one to boot.

For as much money as the Bose boombox is someone could get a amp some pretty good bookself speakers and even use a DVD player as CD player and they would have a pretty good stereo system. And with a good sale you could also end up with some tower speakers for that money.

But I get what your saying Astrozombie Bose is selling a price tag when the product isn't at all worth that much money so people want to think/justify they are buying a good product.

Kirosia got into a bit of a verbal tiff with a co-worker over Bose. I lightly mentioned (while covering my mouth like a megaphone) that "Bose sucks". He became VERY defensive, went into chest-pound mode,  and challenged me. This allowed me to reply to his crackpottery, and crush his soul in about two seconds. (.Whole thing took place in front of customers) I later apologized for my slight d-baggery, but he refused to concede fault, and pretty much threatened me with a pissing match on a day that will never come. He did straight up lie to  my customer's face repeatedly about a product in order to make me look bad about 20 minutes later, but I just didn't have the heart to give a crap.

Background: This guy is an insecure, stupid charlatan. He spent the week jumping on a register in order to alleviate the long lines, only serve maybe two people, then loudly proclaim to the world that he saved the cashiers. (I am a cashier) He's the type who embraces his own ignorance, feels that he needs to put down anyone who isn't as dumb as he, and raise his voice to show he is not wrong. Oh did I mention that he's one of the most beloved employees at my store? To give you an idea why I hate that place so much.

Yikes. Remember, you can never convince someone rationally that a conclusion that they arrived at through non-rational means is wrong. If he gets that defensive over something as mundane as his speaker preferences I can't imagine what he's like if you insult something really important to him... Fanaticism is awful.

Some people cannot be helped, sounds like quite a d-bag indeed.  No need to apologise for having the integrity to speak the truth - people like that see it as a display of weakness and it will only strengthen their arrogance and resolve.  If you correct them they will seek to undermine you elsewhere in order to re-establish their status of dominance.

A d-bag like that will buy Bose not because they want good sound, but in order that others may also know that they have high status gear.  These sort of people will not buy Audez'e or Grado or whatever purely because it is not Bose or Sony and will construct and enforce mental constructs in order to  reassure and validate their status.

One can only hope that such poor genetic material is expires or is rendered infertile before it has a change to procreate, but sadly the opposite is likely to occur.

To try to inject some positivity back into the thread, I had a friend who would ONLY buy Sony products because of an irrational fear that other companies' products were unreliable. Today, he got a Marantz receiver and a set of Klipsch bookshelves. I was so proud...

I'm sort of the reverse. After the rootkit scandal, I avoid Sony where I can because of a completely rational fear that they're spying on me and intentionally breaking my stuff. k701smile.gif
