I would also like to know this.

Iphone audio quality is leaps and bounds better than the inbuilt audio in my macbook pro.

AFAIK - no.  iPhone has no audio inputs - only outputs.

The beauty of the iphone is the interface. The sound is good ( I mean it's a phone for gods sake) but hook it up to something like the a Fostex HP-P1 and prepare to be amazed. There are cheaper options (iStreamer or the new thing from Nuforce) but like the Fostex they all do the the d/a conversion outside the phone.

It has a usb port, there has to be a way to stream PCM through it.

Well my iPhone4 has a dock (line out + digital out if you have the right gear- ALO etc) - but no USB port.  In fact I don't know of an iPhone that actually has a USB port.

And the DOC (again AFAIK) only has digital and analogue out, and power connections.
