I recently acquired a nice-looking D-36 off evilbay. However, when I got it, it had a strange problem that prevented it from playing CDs (and enabled it to damage them). I notified the seller, and he refunded me and told me to throw it away.
However, I don't want to throw it away. The problem is this: the CD appears to sit too low. If one puts a disc on and spins it, there's a loud scraping noise as if the CD is scratching against something. Clearly, the motor tries to spin up, realizes it can't, and gives up. Everything else seems to be fine. It's very clean and has no signs of physical trauma.
Anyone have any ideas? I've been trying to find a service manual to no avail. I don't want to toss it.
