Picked up a Technics turntable for $8, what can you tell me about it?

I found a Technics SL-BD22 at Goodwill for $8. I think it was so cheap because the stylus was broken so it was "as is." I got a generic replacement stylus for the Audio Technica At-91E cartridge off ebay. All I'm waiting for now is the phono pre-amp I ordered (my receiver only has line level inputs).

Am I losing much quality using a generic stylus? Anyone have experience with this particular table? Did I pick it up for a reasonable price?

Also picked up Star Wars and 2001: A Space Odyssey soundtracks for 1.99 a piece.

If everything works as it should, then it's a great price.  The Technics is a great "starter turntable".  It uses a P-mount cartridge, so there's no adjustments of any kind to make.  It's truly a "plug and play" unit.  Aside from that, get more records.

Btw, I owned the Technics SL-BD20, a model lower than the SL-BD22.
