Low level listening with HD650?

When listening at a low level apparently you can hear more details and it saves your hearing.

However, when I use my HD650 at a low level they sound very similar to my DT880 (also at a low level) - especially in the quantity of bass. Maybe the highs are not quite as bright as the DT880.

Is that normal?

And is the HD650 a good 'phone in general for low-level listening?

Generally speaking, it takes more dB of bass at lower volumes to reach the same perceived sound compared to the rest of the frequencies by the equal loudness curves. It's entirely possible that the bass is being underemphasized at the low frequencies so that the HD650 and DT880's bass sound like they have the same quantity. It's less of a function of the headphone and more a function of how your ear works. You'll probably have to equalize to reach the same perceived loudness.
