Shure SE425 for low volume listening

Hey,

Quick question regarding the Shure SE425. I'm contemplating purchasing these IEMs, but since I prefer listening to my music at low volumes, I need them to perform well when driven to low levels. Do the SE425's fit the bill?

If you know of other IEMs that would be better choices, feel free to let me know. $300 would probably be my limit. I'd go so far as to say that I would be willing to take a hit to sound quality at higher volumes if low level performance is great.

Thanks!

No, not really a good choice.  They are efficient but somewhat lean on bass so they will sound a bit thin on low volumes.  You should be able to find W3 under $300 and UM2 would be a good choice as well.

Hmm, thanks for the input. That's what I would have figured (regarding the mid-centric sound making them less than ideal for low volume listening), but I saw one head-fi reviewer actually mention that they are 'perfect' for such an application, so I wanted a second opinion.

Appreciate your recommendations. I've seen the W3 pop up before when questions similar to mine were asked in the past. The W3 sure seems to get a lot of praise; the only thing keeping me from jumping on them is their non-removable cable. I don't want to spend all this money when a simple cable-related problem can render them useless.
