Ms1i or AD700 for classical/opera?????? - Page 3

I'd go with the AD-700s.  I now own the AD-700s  and several years ago owned a pair of Grado SR60s.  I primarily use the AD-700 for orchestral and chamber music.  I have Dallas Symphony season tickets, and the sound I get from the AD-700 is remarkably similar to the live sound I hear.  I would very much recommend them for orchestral listening and opera shouldn't be that different. The Grados sounded good for a while, but for a longer work, they got uncomfortable and the Grado 'sizzle' got a bit overbearing. I kinda dread what the Grado sound might do to certain soprano voices.  But the AD-700 do need some EQ for more bass heavy rock, etc.  I'm not sure what the Alessandro 'treatment' might do to the sound.  If it takes away a bit of 'sizzle', they might be very good for opera.

The ms1i's are probably a great choice.  They are probably going to be a great all around set of cans for you.  I've had to eq the AD700s to enjoy most of the rock I listen to.  I'm considering a second pair of phones for that music.

Good luck! I enjoyed mine :)

AND PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR MOD THEM INTO THE MS1000 AFTER YOU'VE HAD ENOUGH TIME WITH IT.

Dramatic improvement. I rate them equal to my (under-powered maybe) HD580 and the Denon D2000.

I guess by having the distancers, the drivers are further apart from your ears and hence deliver an enhanced sound stage (and it IS a large soundstage trust me. It gets larger every time I compare them with another set of headphones). The jumbo pads adds bass maybe?

In fact, I do not know what I am talking about. You NEED TO ASK THE PRO on the ms1k forum. Some members still make the distancers for cheap and don't mind mailing them to you. I got the Jumbos from the FS forum. Just post a classfield and keep bumping it.
