German companies make some good headphones, there must be some equally good amp makers

Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic spring to mind. If there is a culture of headphone appreciation there may also be some good amps. I know of spl, and have seen things written about Cayin and Vincent. Any others worth a look?

Well, there's Meier Audio. There are also Burmester Audio and MBL.

Thanks for pointer on Violectric, the Lake People tag makes them sound like some hippy US west coast collective!

SPL Phonitor, I dont recommend it for audiophiles though its more of a "Pro" tool. You wont get to notice it unless you are using a really good DAC or DA/AD converter and working at high bitrates and sample rates. My 2c.

Meier have gone a bit quite more recently? Do Burmester and MBL make headphone amps? How could I forget spl..

I don't believe either one do, but I could be wrong.

 

MBL makes an integrated amp (MBL 7008) with a headphone out. Mind you there would be a sticker shock (about $9000 shock).
