Need Help: Under 100 dollar portable headphone amp

Thread Starter

I am looking to get a cheap headphone amp for use at work.  I am just getting my feet wet in headphones and dont want to jump in just yet (I do that already on 2 channel and HT audio).  I dont need this to be super small, but I want to be able to carry it with me to and from work with ease.

My source will be either my iPhone 4 (streaming Pandora or via internal iTunes library), or my Zune HD, but mostly just the iPhone.  I will be listening to Apple Lossless files converted from FLAC so there should be a decent sound quality to start with.

I am planning on purchasing a either Audio-Technica ATH-M50 or Beyerdynamic DT 770 headphones to replace my 7+ year old Sonys. I am not really interested in getting suggestions on other headphones, just on portable amps.

So far I have come across two portable amps that seem to meet my needs:

JDSLabs Cmoy
 Review: http://www.headfonia.com/60-pack-of-...-jdslabs-cmoy/
 Specs:http://www.jdslabs.com/gallery_cmoy.php?page=cmoy

Electric Avenues PA2V2

 Review: http://www.headfonia.com/electric-avenues-pa2v2/

 Spec's: http://www.electric-avenues.com/amplifiers.html

I am wondering what other options are out there that sound decent for under 100 paired with either of those sets of headphones.I listen to lots of Rock, some Rap, and Electronic on my headphones.

Looking forward to you guys thoughts.  Thanks in advance.

Fiio E10.

What makes the E10 better than those other two options?

The e10 is not an amp it is a usb DAC. It will not work with the zune nor the ipod.

My apologies, I was thinking of the E11, not the E10.  The E10 is a DAC and amp, but as mentioned only has USB input.

The e11 is a great amp for the price. There is much better out here but quite higher price.

I am thinking I will be going with the Jlabs Cmoy.  Most of the time at work this will be plugged into the wall so the fact you cant charge and play the E11 at the same time is a big deal.  Also I am not a fan of how that volume knob is located as it would be hard to mess with the volume (since this will not be in my pocket but lying on my desk).

If I am missing something here please let me know, but right now I am thinking the rechargeable Cmoy might be my best bet.

Also should I purchase something like the Fiio L9 Line Out adapter for my iPhone, or a 3.5mm interconnect cable?

Figured since I purchased a heaphone amp I should close the thread out :).  I found a Objective 2 amplifier on Craigslist in a beautiful custom rosewood case.  Scooped that up and now am working on aquiring a LOD for my iPhone 4 and a new set of cans (thinking ALO modded HFI-780's).

Not bad for a work only setup if I dont say so myself.

P.S. music being played is re-encoded FLAC so its good quality.  If I just want to hear a bunch of random stuff I just hit the Pandora app, realizing the quality is piss poor :).

I'd save some money and grab the Fiio E17. Looks to be a killer portable AMP/DAC.

Eh not really interested. It doesn't do more than the O2 amp I just got. My ONLY source for this setup will be my iPhone and so USB charging and DAC wont matter much since with a LOD I am still using the iPhones DAC's unless I missed something. Add to that the ALO modded Ultrasone HFI-780s aren't that hard to drive and it's not worth it. Also this setup will get very limited use at work. I listen much more at home on my home theater setup.
