Alternatives to Sennheiser HD280 / 380 Pro?

Dear all

I'm a music producer and have recently started using the wonderful NanoStudio on my iPhone 3GS. I'm looking for a pair of headphones with the following features:

Excellent sound quality

Excellent ambient noise attenuation

3.5mm jack connector

Low impedance

Preferably I would like a short cable or the ability to replace the cable with a short one, as I will also be using them for listening to music walking around town. I've looked at the Sennheiser HD280 Pro and HD380 Pro, but I'm worried about the non-detachable coiled cable they both come with. I think this will be too heavy and cumbersome.

In my home studio I use Sennheiser HD25SPs.

Any advice from you knowledgeable folk would be highly appreciated!

Regards

Gareth

If it weren't for the cable issue I'd say the sony mdr-v6, the shure 440 or the ath m50. I think most, if not all, headphones for music production have a long straight, or a heavy coiled, cable. Can't think of anything off hand that comes with a short cable.

The Sennheiser HD 25 I II seems to fit your requirements ideally.

They're my walking about town, going to the gym, etc. headphones.

Thanks people, that's really helpful. I will check out the suggested alternatives. Long cables I can cope with, heavy I cannot! The problem with the HD25s as far as I can see is that they are supra-aural rather than circum-aural and don't provide enough ambient noise isolation.

I havent listened to these, but the Audio-Technica ATH-PRO700Mk2 would meet all your requirements. However, they are reportedly a completely different sound signature than the Senns and they are a little tight on the head. They are bass monsters so they're not for everyone.

They provide exceptional ambient noise isolation.

Low impedance? How about the Sony V900HD($155)(aka 7509HD($189)). It is 24 ohms and is used extensively for professional music editing.
