Looking for full-sized closed headphones for less than $350

Thread Starter

I'm looking to replace my beat up 8-9 year old Sennheiser HD 280 Pros with something a bit more refined and neutral.  I want something that's full-sized/closed/over-ear, and that can be driven by an iPod without an amp, but is still light enough to be used comfortably as a portable.  My musical tastes are literally all over the map, so I'm looking for a good general purpose set.  My preliminary research has led me to look at:

Denon AH-D2000

Shure SRH440/840/940

Audio-Technica ATH M-50

Audio-Technica ATH-A700/900

Beyerdynamic DT-770

I've been leaning towards the Denon AH-D2000, but my only concern is that since they're a bit heavier than the others, that they might not work too well as portables.  If anybody has any experience with any of these (particularly the Denons) or knows of any other headphones I should be looking at in the sub-$350 price range, I'd greatly appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks,

Dave

Denon 2000's for sure. They are a bit heaver but they are built well, I take mine to school and work in a backpack and they hold up perfectly. They sound good in any genre (esp any rock, hiphop, electronic), they sound good without an amp. I do however use the fiio e7 which makes them sound even better but not a necessity. I havent looked back since getting them, once you hear them youll be happy.
