Is there any danger from an old Yamaha amplifier?

I found an old Yamaha natural sound amplifier a-32 and am going to try it with my headphones. The only problem is... this amp is very old. I found it in the garage and when I plugged it in and turned it on, I heard a loud pop. Would there be any danger to my headphones if I try using them on this amp? I don't know how these things work and don't want it destroying my headphones if that is even possible.

Thanks for any help

Hmm, one of the LEDs just went out. I'm still tempted to try my headphones on this amp... in case they still work.

Got any crappy old speakers you can try with it?

Speakers that you don't particularly care for?

Do you own a voltmeter?

I don't have the right speakers for this amp. My speakers only have the 3.5mm input plug and the amp doesn't have the input for that. I believe I do have a voltmeter somewhere, but knowing how to use it is way beyond me.

Say I just plugged my headphones in... what is the worst that can happen...

It is possible that you might demo the 'phones!

I think my brother used to have an A-32 about 25-30 years ago??  Nice amp, but if some components have gotten too old you may end up demo-ing your phones.angry_face.gif

Do you know much about electronics? Just wondering.......no offence intended!

Haha, none taken. I know nothing about electronics. What do you mean by "demo" a headphone?

By "demo" I mean:

Destroy the headphones...........demolish the headphones.

It is possible that there is something wrong with the amp that would put a bad voltage across the headphones.

My brother's A32 was a nice amp but you have to wonder why someone threw it out. After 20-30 years things can start to fail.

I wouldn't write it off or throw it away, if you have a few bucks take it to a repair shop and see if it works properly and if it is worth getting fixed,or if you have an electronically minded friend you could get him (or her!) to take a look at it?

I took the risk and plugged it in lol. No sound came through but I don't think it damaged my headphones... hopefully. I don't think I hear any differences

Oh well,  at least you didn't destroy the headphones!

Like I said, it's a nice amp if you can get it fixed.
