I have an X-Fi Fatal1ty pro, should I upgrade?

I've had an ath m50 for more than 6 months now and I have an x-fi xtremegamer fatal1ty pro(NOT the current titanium one thats black and flat) pro from like 4 years ago, music sounds decent to me I guess but I've been reading around and apparently its ok for games but not for music?
Would it be worth it to switch to a Fiio E7 or Nuforce uDac-2 other similarly priced DAC?

If you get a DAC that accepts S/PDIF input, that could improve things noticeably, but you'd be paying a lot for it, certainly more than an X-Fi Titanium HD.

The general rule of thumb I've heard, when it comes to desktops, is to stick to sound cards unless you're willing to spend $300-500 minimum on an external DAC. Even then, you won't have the gaming features unless you keep a cheap sound card around as a DSP, and your current one would do just fine for that.

Even then, before you can really appreciate the differences, you might need a better headphone than the M50.
