Please do so, I am kind of missing my RE-262's but I still want a little more treble. Not necessarily sharper treble, just that I thought it sounded a little muffled. Paired with my hearing (which is admittedly a little damaged) I kind of crave a good and forward treble. If the RE-272's are like the 262's but with a little more up there, I might try one for myself as well, when the economy's looking better. wink.gif

I don't think the RE272 is some significant improvement, as far as technicalities, over the RE262.  They differ most in tuning & texture.  They each have such a unique sound.. and execute that with incredible precision and cohesion.  It's a little difficult to A/B them since they're almost on the opposite sides of the spectrum as far as signatures.. the 262 being warm, liquid, midcentric, and a little lush.. and the 272 being cool, crisp, and a little dry (through the mids).

I listened deep into the night with the RE272 yesterday.. and I had to force myself to take them out & go to sleep.. at 3am!  The detail, timbre, clarity, and immersion was like little I've ever heard before it.  It's not going to be a phone I grab and listen to all the time (much like the RE262), but play (well recorded) music that synergizes with it's signature and you'll be in audio nirvana.

I feel sorry for not having picked up this phone (RE272) sooner.. it's pure joy to listen with.

I have been neglecting my 272.  I've had them for 3 months.  I got them as a backup for my 262 during my travel just so that if my 262 failed I would have some good IEMs.  All this talk about the 272 is making me want to spend some time with them this weekend.....

I've been listening to them almost exclusively with the ODAC & O2.. and what a glorious combo all that is.  They sound surprisingly good through the iPhone, unamped too.  Like the RE262.. note weight, refinement, control, and extension all improve when a good, transparent amp is added.  Looking forward to trying the RE272 out with the Arrow soon, too.

I'm very interested in hearing the RE272 balanced, as well.. I didn't think it could get much better than with the combo above (w/o spending significantly more).. but if so.. wow.

Previously the best treble I've ever heard was the RE0, so if the RE272 is the natural upgrade to that, it should be something to look forward to.

ClieOS once told me the O2 was very close to the Stepdance but I'm not sure how close he thinks the O2/re272 is to the Stepdance/re272. The re272 should pair well with my UHA-6, with it's deeper soundstage and excellent bass control.

Just need to sell my um2, then I'm jumping aboard the re272 train.

id love to know if you can get some sort of custom tips for 252-262-272 which i can use and interchage with all 3, as i find i really have to spend some time fiddling and moving to get the optimal sound .....I really love Hifimans IEM's, its just those tips...or more likely those ears of mine.....I had to get 3 lots of impressions done to be finally happy with my UM Customs.....so yes its those Ears...

Custom sleeves is what you're looking for.  1964Ears well get you fixed up.  The RE2x2 series should all have the same nozzle size (I know, for a fact, the RE262 & 272 do.. since I own them both).

Thank you Flysweep,  Always to the rescue......ye they look fairly simmilar.... Do I just send them the diamater of the nozzle size? or how does it work???

Sure.. As psygeist said.. send ear impressions as well as the IEM you want sleeves molded for.  The cool thing is that these sleeves will most likely work with many of your other IEMs.  You might need to use (widely available) spacers for those IEMs with too narrow a nozzle, but it's quite manageable, nonetheless.

I'd contact 1964Ears to get the specifics, they've got fantastic customer service.. I'm planning to get sleeves made too, btw.

psygeist...thanks mate i really like your humor....great stuff.. I suppose ear impressions would be important...So FlySweep your saying I send my 262's with ear impressions.

I would also love to be able to use these with my ER4's as well.... spacers??? can you pls educate me further please.....sounds interesting.

Thanks for the review! I was considering the RE626 very seriously, compared to several more expensive choices. This thread helped me make my decision and to pull the trigger. The RE262 should arrive some time this week! I am upgrading from Xears XE200Pro and I have the highest of hopes for the RE262. As great as the Xears are, they are what they are. Great for $50 but nothing compared to a more serious IEM. I use my Sennheiser HD555 predominantly at home, and wanted comparable sound out of an IEM and from the reviews, this sounds like the one to suit me best.

I'm glad you enjoyed the review and found the following conversations helpful.  I hope you enjoy them- I do believe they compete with top tier universals at more than twice their price.

That's what I've gathered! Do you ever still use your E6 with them, or have you moved on to something else? I use my E6 nearly every day and am not really looking forward to buying a new amp. Do you find it to mate will with the RE262?

The e6 was decent with them, especially if you enjoy the bass boost option. I enjoyed them with the O2 a lot more but that is not a portable solution.

I no longer have the re262. I had sold them to try other things but I have greatly enjoyed every Hifiman phone I've had a chance to hear and am really looking forward to purchasing the re272.
