For anyone curious about how this turned out, I purchased the UE600vi and they don't work as well as I would like with Android or PowerAmp.
First, you have to fiddle with the buttons to get Android to even recognize it as a headset. Then, only the center button works for controls. Finally, the microphone does not work at all.
Once it's recognized as a headset you can use the middle button to pause/play, next track, and previous track (you have to set PowerAmp to raise its headset priority and recognize two and three button presses). That's it. I was able to bring up the voice command function, but with no microphone, that's pretty much useless.
I'm going to start looking for a pair of the old model SuperFi 5vi's, which I hear worked perfectly with Android.
