After one week of use, some impressions on the Pro 80:
First thing that caught my eye was the size, is 't small ! The earcups are small, the headband is small when not pulled out. I have to adjust the earcups till max to get it on my big head. Once it's on that head first thing I hear is... muffeled sound... it's like putting hearing protection on your head so good isolation ! And the first thing I feel is comfort. Even with the fake leather earpads.
Then I plugged it into my iPhone.... played a song from Dream Theater... begins with troath chanting, really deep, and ambient sounds. Bass was good, but it's the "open" sound which really surprised me. It's the widest sounding pair of headphones I (have) own(ed) !
Then the guitar came in with a very metal-like riff, sounded damn good ! The treble didn't bother me at all. randomly played some other songs on it and they all sounded really good on the iPhone.
But when I plugged it into my Macbook Pro's headphones out there it was... the treble peak
It's unbelievable how much difference there is in sound between the iPhone's musicplayer and iTunes on the Mac. Of course, on the Mac I can use EQ to tame that treble peak but I don't like using EQ.
Stereo imaging, on the other hand, is supurb on these. Nice instrument placement, good detail. Wide sound with lots of room and sounds outside of my head.
So overall a very decent pair of headphones.
I've got another Chinese pair in the house, my Somic MH489, my favorite cans. How do they compare to the Pro 80's ? Well, they don't! The Takstar is open sounding, The Somic compact sounding. The Takstar is small sized, the Somic is huge. The Takstar is comfy, the Somic presses on my ears, not so comfy... but soundwise I still prefer the Somic. It's massive bass is so much fun and there's no treble boost.
