Hey guys. I made a build log (sorta) of the removable cable mod. Have a gander if you like.

Thanks mate! It's so much better now. I can't stand that heavy coiled cable. Also, it could be just my imagination, but the sound seems to be noticeably warmer now.

I'm not 100% sure that a cable changes the sound. Sometimes I hear it sometimes I don't. I have noticed that changing the cables changes the volume noticeably on some mods, but I'm not certain the sound signature actually changes

I listen to my Pro80's often, they get most of the closed can usage in my stable.

They have an obvious resonant character compared to open phones, I can hear the drums being modified and amplified by the close cups compared to Prosonus HD7 or SuperLux 668 or 681. This makes the impact greater, the soundstage smaller, and drums and rock to appear more full bodied.

Yeah I don't really believe that it could make such an impact either. It just feels like the lower spectrum has been lifted a tad. The total length of the cable has become considerably short because the OEM cable is coiled and I think the CAT5 core wires are thicker than those in the OEM cable also. This could actually mean a cleaner signal path. I don't know though.

Was thinking of selling my HI2050's because they are just a tad too small for my large dome and I also just got the EVO 681 which I really like (they are totally different BTW). Last night I listened to a disc by Sara Swenson and after listening to the entire disc without interruption I decided I can't sell these...they are musical have great detail and did a great job on female vocals. Cost vs sound quality are crazy on these:L3000:

We are always looking for excuses not to sell. It's so hard to let go

For those who don't have a room for a museum I recommend towel rack. There are 17 headphones in the picture, there is room for 25 or so :) 4-5 headphones a branch.

Sometimes... Mostly I use dx1000 or sa5000, pro80 with hm5 pads at night when isolation is required. Ha-s400, hd228 or mh438 with my phone when I listen to music in bed. Mh463, hd681, Digitechs, rp-htf600e-s and hi2050 get occasional headtime. I like to refresh my memory on how those sounded and I do a little comparative listening every now and then with those. It's worth noting that all those are cheap headphones except for dx1000 and sa5000. Some not worth more than 15$.

I like budget headphones and I don't really see much point reselling 20 buck headphones (allthough I have done that also). Shipping fees are a deal killer with cheap stuff... So I rather keep them most of the time.  When someone is wondering if he should get hd681 or hi2050 it is nice to be able to help.  I have no limit on how many headphones I should own but I don't want expensive headphones gathering dust. Besides dx1000 and sa5000 I can see myself getting only one more expensive headphone at some point. I miss some of the more expensive headphones I've sold, especially hd600 and w1000x but those were just too expensive considering the little headtime those got in the end.
