Thanks for the tip. I bought those pads for my Pro80s (arrived a couple of weeks ago in the UK) and they make them very comfortable. Am aware of the isolation suffering though  - more background noise is infiltrating, but the increased comfort compensates.

Does anyone else have comfort issues with the HI2050 stock pads? They really hurt my ears after a while and I didn't realize how much an impact that has on my listening enjoyment until I took someone's suggestion earlier in the thread and rotated the pads 90 degrees to open up the inside and make it more circular. HUGE difference in comfort, gives my ears much more room to breathe and increases the clearance from the pads. I really like the sound of these headphones and the comfort is really the only thing holding them back IMO, so I think I might try my hand at making some pads.

The 5500 are starting to hurt my ears.  The pads aren't thick enough and my ears are hitting the grill.

Selling my HD5500.  I wanna explore now, lol.

You can always try the rope spacer mod first before giving up on them

Very nice, always good to buy from an American dealer. You might want to give this EQ a try, I'm using on my HI2050's and it's sounding silky smooth. I inverted the frequency response graph from the Pro80's to make up for the shortcomings and went from there. I'm liking it thus far.

65hz, -2.5db, 2.5 BW

600hz, -4db, 5.1 BW

820hz, +3db, 1BW

1500hz, +1.5db, 1.7 BW

2180hz, -0.25db, 0.5 BW

3620hz, +1db, 1 BW

4866hz, -2.9db, 0.21 BW

7000hz, -3db, 0.2 BW

19305hz, -2db, 1 BW

I've found the sound to be very balanced after applying this EQ, but there are still some sibilance problems for splashy music/ess'y vocals. Enjoy the new cans!

I got my Takstar 5500 in the mail today. Got it for $39 USD.

Definitely a bass clarity headphone. Nice punchy bass.

Comfortable. Chord a bit on the long side but no biggie (2.2 meters).

Leakage seems minimal. Isolation will get its test as I fly on Monday.

Anyone know what type of Takstar would be most similar to the Ultrasone DJ1/HFI-580 or ATH-M50? Looking for some bass heavy sort of headphones that have good vocal clarity for stuff like vocal trance and house.

I think the post directly above yours might be your answer. From what people have said about the 5500, it will fit your needs nicely. I can't speak for comfort though, as one person said they were sending them back because they were uncomfortable.

I haven't heard either of your mentioned headphones but the 5500 are probably your best bet. With EDM they were great but blew my mind with acid jazz. I haven't had a problem with comfort. If your ears stick out a bit they might touch the grills of the inside of the headphones but from the looks of it it would be pretty easy to mod them and I just notices that changing the size, the headphones don't get really big. I have a medium to large head but if your head is quite large then it might be an issue.

can some one do a soundstage and positioning comparison (or gaming comparison)? focusing on the 5500, pro80 and HI2050 and othe value headphones like superlux.

thank you :)

You don't want 5500 for gaming.  Most likely the 2050 since it's semi open.
