New 240gb hdd for ipod 5G 30gb - advice

Hi all,

been reading up on the bigger size hdd's for ipod video. I'm thinking of buying this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310353135392

Does anyone know if this will fit without any issues in my 5G ipod video 30gb? I believe it will but want to make sure before buying it. Also - after inserting the hdd, do I just simply connect the ipod to itunes and itunes will download and install the fw?

Thanks for any input on this. I know there are threads on this but it's hard to find specific info I think.

Edit: I want to add, this will be my first attempt to doing something like this myself.. :)

No one with experience in this?

From the research I did because I am doing the same thing. It is my understanding you need the 80gb Ipod Video.

You can check out Rapid Repair for more information about which hardrive for which ipod.  They also sell the harddrives also.  Hope that helps, have a great christmas

Hmm, rapidrepair's site says the 240gb hdd's will only work with 5g/5.5g ipod video 60/80gb, and not with the 30gb 5g ipod video. But I know I've read that they work on the 30gb model too. If anyone have done this successfully please let me know! Thanks :)

YOu will have to get a different back plate.

Tell us how it comes out. My brother has the 120gb Classic and i have the 80gb Classic. The only problem that may occur is iTunes nor recognizing the increase in storage.

I have installed the 240 Gb HD sold by Rapid Repair unto an 80 Gb iPod 5.5 video. As I recall not only is the depth provided by the back of the 80 Gb iPod 5.5 but also the larger ram in the iPod 5.5. If you proceed use the opportunity to swap the battery for a fresh one.

Ok, thanks. I guess I need a 5,5g version for the hdd upgrade. I wanted to do it all at the same time - diy imod, new battery and new hdd. Maybe I'll skip the hdd and just get a new battery in my 5g 30gb and get it imodded. Hdd space will never ever be enough anyways :)

Thanks for the responses.
