I'm picking up some HD 558s really soon and am debating whether to buy an amp or not. Without an amp these would be driven either by my iPhone 4 directly or by my Denon AVR-1312 receiver. The low impedance and high sensitivity of these cans leads me to believe that there wouldn't be much of a difference with a dedicated amp.
