AKG K701

Hello!

I currently own a pair of Etymotic ER6i and I like them. Unfortunately, they start to be uncomfortable after two hours of use. This is why I would like to buy headphones for comfy listening at home.

I'm in love with the K701 model from AKG, but I'm afraid it won't work nicely with my MacBook Pro. Could please tell me if it's a good choice or not?

Thanks. :)

You should try them first if you have a chance, if not a little amp will be needed for start. Since you come from Etys there is big possibility that you will like akg k701. Little advice, if you get them and not feeling satisfied with sound, "big buck" amp is not going to save them, it will just improve them since they reveal their character even with modest amplification.

the k701 are not that easy to drive, u would probably need an amp. if ur looking for headphones that don't need amplification, grado maybe be a good place to start looking:)

My FiiO E10 was cheap and seems to drive my Q701 headphones quite nicely. Check it out. I'll let you know how it compares to the M-Stage in a day or two.

I've read direct accounts of people who were dissapointed with their MacBook Pro + AKG K70x combo so I'd say at least get a basic amp. Maybe a E7/E9 combo to go with it.

Proper amplification is a must for them. I've read good things about the K701 + Headfive. (its hard to find one tho)

Running my K702s off my MacBook Pro is not very pleasing, not only does it not drive them properly in terms of sound quality but even the volume is not loud enough for most listeners. I would not recommend getting the K70X without having a proper amp/dac they are pretty picky about that.

Thank you! Your answers have been really helpful.

I will save some more money in order to get a decent amp along with the K701.

Again, thanks. :)
