College Student and Active! Need some headphones asap for xmas!

Hey guys ~

After years of messing with crappy ipod headphones and skulls I want to get some better sound.  I was initially looking at beats, but reviews geared me away from them.  Here are some things to note:

1. I work out alot (lift) so I want something that comfortable and doesnt fall off easily

2. I listen to either my ipod or computer, no studio headphones are needed for me

3. I listen to hip/hop to bass is very important to me, but I do appreciate all types of music!

4. Price range is around $150

based on this and some reading around I have been looking at the Ultrasone HFI-780 because reviews have them sounding good and have great bass (which is a BIG thing in what I want).  Looked at the M50's but again, i dont want an external amp and I want a little more bass...   so I was wondering if these will still perform really good by just using an ipod and computer?

Any other options would be greatly appreciated!!!

Dustin

They're not super comfortable, but they're definitely not "very uncomfortable".

At least on my head.

I can wear them several hours at a time without them bothering me.

Edit: I just read your first post - the 780's are not ideal for the gym.  They don't clamp tightly enough.

Well Im only at the gym for an hour or so.. so they don't have to be "perfect" for working out and lifting. As long as they would at least work okay for that lol that's good that I found someone who didn't find them uncomfortable seems like alot of the reviews say that. Are they still good even without an amp?

Lift? as in Weight lifting? I have the HFI680, and it doesnt stay really securely on your head if you move too much, especially in a headbanging direction movement lol. The 780 has a little harshness on the highs, so you might need a little time get use to it, the HFI580 is another option for bass phones, or audio technica ATH-pro700mkII.

as for something more secure, the sennheiser HD25-1 II might be a good choice with the headband split and all. It has a great sound, doesnt really need amp, and has good bass

cheers,

For portable use and working out I always use my Denon D1100. The leather pads are very comfortable and the headphones itself is very light. Also, if you love BASS then this is for you. This headphones has lots of bass without sacrificing the mids and highs. When I use this for working out, it doesn't fall of easily and it doesn't require them an amp.

does anyone know a good place to buy them for the cheapest price?

If you want the D1001, get the Creative Aurvana Live instead (same headphone, much cheaper). If you can stretch your budget a little, go for the HD25

I prefer to buy from Amazon when I can, but that's just because eBay is full of counterfeits and such.
