Just bought my first "high-end" headphones - Page 2

That's perfectly understandable. I actually use my Sony stereo as an amp sometimes. Most stereo receivers work very well for powering headphones. The one use you may yet have for a portable amp it to plug it into a USB port on your HTPC and use it to convert the digital signal from your computer to a standard headphone jack output. This would only be if you didn't want the theater system on though, as essentially, your stereo receiver would be doing the same thing... if you have a laptop however, you could probably find more scenarios for using a headphone amp (with a DAC, the ability to convert a digital signal to an analogue headphone output) while you're on the go if your laptop has a hard time powering headphones cleanly.

I think I'm going to pick up one of those CMOY DIY altoid amps and see what that does for me.
