Will be in SE Asia this time next week - more tropical fruits for me!

... I wonder what's in season at the moment??

which country? Here in Indonesia I think it's season for rambutan and durian, although I did saw some manggis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manggis) and markisa (aka Passion Fruit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passiflora_edulis)...

Enjoy your stay and don't forget to gorge yourself to tropical fruits lol

The pictures I took at local market:

Durian

Durian at local market. I don't exactly know the kind, but I think it's durian montong...

Markisa:

Markisa at local market. It's the yellow flesh one (there are two kind of passion fruit from Indonesia: the white flesh and the yellow flesh. The white flesh is eaten straight as fruit while the yellow flesh is strained to obtain its juice. The juice then cooked with sugar to make syrup. Its delicious, the syrup)

Nanas (pinneaple):

Nanas (aka pinneaple) at local market.

Manggis:

Manggis (aka Purple Mangosteen or only as Mangosteen) at local market. Very yummy.

And some dragon fruit too!

Dragon fruit at local market. I don't know which one, but I think it's the white fleshed one, because that's the most usual available here.

I'll mainly be in the north-western corner of Thailand. I'll take some photos of the fruits I see and post them when I get back!

I think we also grow all those fruits here in Australia as I buy those all the time here at our local markets! Markisa I'm not so sure of... I think I've only bought it once.

Picked up some rambutan a couple of weeks ago. Its a lychee-like fruit with the main disadvantage of a thin and bitter skin on the seed, that sometimes comes off with the flesh.

yup, usually you eat the seed skin together with the fruit, but it have a refreshing taste when you eat it cold!

Mangosteens are to die for!  I prefer Durian in ice cream, shakes or chilled for a few days, definitely not overly ripe and warm fresh off the tree.  Cherimoya makes a mean shake too.

Not sure if I missed it but Jackfruit is nice.  We usually make it in a fruit cocktail w/ Palm seed.
