Between the westone 4 and mdr ex1000, I decided to go with ex1000. I am searching for the best deal for ex1000. If you know any trustworthy site or seller, please tell me! But I really want the warranty because it is quite expensive iem's. Thanks!

Amazon would be a good place to start I think?

This website has them for $332 after shipping: http://www.thenerds.net/SONY.Sony_Studio_Monitor_MDR_EX1000_Earphone_Stereo_Mini_phone.MDREX1000.html?affid=8

I've never bought from them but it has over 7100 user ratings on google, so its probably reliable. I've been looking into the EX1000's too and this is the cheapest i've seen them.

^^^It's priced at $500 on Amazon. There are several stores selling it in the low $300s -- surely one of those is an authorized dealer. You get the warranty card regardless of where you get it though, so I'm not sure if it even matters. The warranty is only for 90 days anyway.

I am in somewhat of the same boat my friend.  I didn't know that the Sony warranty was only 90 days though - can anyone confirm this?  Here is the best price I could find:

I just got my EX1000 yesterday, warranty is only 90 days and comes with the cheaper EX600 cable instead of the thicker EX1000 cable.  You will have to spend twice as much to get the 3 year warranty and the thicker EX100 cable, which I assume is probably not worth it  if you switch IEM's every year or so.

Here's what I suggest. The EX1000 can be purchased at Beach Audio for $311.51 shipped. Beach Audio is an authorized SQUARETRADE merchant, and hence an extended 3YR warranty can be purchased at an additional cost. However, instead of purchasing the extended SQUARETRADE warranty at the same time as the EX1000, there's a way to save much more time & money on the warranty. As a buyer, you're eligible for purchasing the extended SQUARETRADE warranty anytime within 60 days (30 days for eBay purchases), from the original date of product purchase. In other words, you're given 60 days from the date of purchasing the EX1000 to decide whether or not you wish to invest in the SQUARETRADE warranty. Since the EX1000 is already backed up by a 90 day manufacturer's warranty, take advantage of the Sony warranty for the first 50 or so days, and just before your 60 day SQUARETRADE eligibility period is up, purchase the extended SQUARETRADE warranty via their website. There are plenty of coupons/discount codes available online, sometimes for as much as 30% off your extended warranty purchase. Hence, Sony's got you covered for nearly the first 2 months, after which SQUARETRADE will have you covered for a full 3 years, at a much cheaper cost when purchased through their site with a discount code. This is the best and sure-shot way to protect your investment. biggrin.gif

I can confirm that the above works like a charm, as I've done the very same with my own EX1000, and anyone wary of the SQUARETRADE warranty should view their rating (Seller rating: 4.9 / 5 - Based on 1,728 reviews). This method works with any online merchant backed up by SQUARETRADE. Remember folks, always shop smart. wink.gif

Nope. If I recall correctly, the XBA series are consumer oriented, whereas their professional, 'stage monitor' lineup is still the EX series. Forget where exactly I read that though.

That is a very effective way. Thank you! I will try your method. How is the sound quality of ex1000 compared to se535?

I have heard this as well.  The EX series are the professional IEMs, while the XBA series are for consumers.

I'm very fond of both, and while they're both excellent in-ears, their presentations are entirely different. On the whole, I prefer the EX1000, but where vocals are concerned, I must admit, the Shure's mesmerizing midrange is in it's own league, as compared to many other top-tiers. Nevertheless, I've never paid retail for the SE535, nor would I, especially when the EX1000 can be had for just a little over $300, and is still the more technically proficient one. Not to mention, I'm in full agreement with the following statement that |joker| mentioned in his SE535 review:

There still seem to be some minor positioning anomalies resulting from the relative strength of the midrange but nothing that would bother me.

While it doesn't necessarily bother me either, the midrange does come on a tad too prominent at times, and I find that the rolled off highs don't help in that aspect. Not at all the case with the EX1000. However, if you can manage to acquire the SE535 at around relatively the same price as the EX1000, it's certainly worth considering. smile.gif

You are awesome!  That is seriously a great idea - thank you.

Did your EX1000s come with the EX1000 cable or the thinner one like the other member described?  I just want to make sure that I will get an authentic pair from Beach Audio and not a bootleg set.

The US version only comes with the EX600 cable - there's nothing bootleg about it. That's just the only cable it comes with. The good news is the EX600 cable either sounds exactly the same as the EX1000 cable or better, based on peoples' accounts on here. It's a great cable regardless.
