Poor audio on Asus 1015PX (netbook)

Thread Starter

Hi, I recently bought an Asus 1015PX and everything sounds so tinny and poor from the headphone port. I am using three headphones (HF5, HD 555, AH-D5000) and I want to use the HF5 for portable use. I'd prefer a device that could fit in the HF5's carrying case. What do I need, an amp or a DAC or both?

How much are you willing to pay? I'm new to headfi so I may not be the best person to talk to but if your trying to go cheap and portable you can get a usb sound card. Turtlebeach has one for $25 and its suppose to power the headphones much better without noise from the internal components of the netbook. I don't have any experience with these those.

I don't know if it would fit in your HF5's carrying case, but http://www.head-fi.org/t/483191/fiio-e7-review is a good DAC/amp. You didn't specify a budget so I went with something that isn't too pricy.
