Upgrading From My Audio-Technica ATH-M50s. Help!

Hey,

I got a pair of Audio Technica ATH-M50s a year ago and they've rocked my world.

Before then, I only listened to music on your average $20 headphones.

But these headphones brought my listening experience to a whole new level.

Now that my budget's increased - I'd like to add on a second pair of headphones.

Maybe even a little upgrade.

Here's my list of things I like - I'd appreciate it if you could share your experience, and help me out:

* Gotta be closed back - I take my ATH-M50s with me, and I don't want to be "that guy" on the subway.

* I love a good soundstage. My buddy introduced me to the audiophile world through his Beveridge speakers. Until then, I had no idea music could have that space and depth. My ATH-M50s were my first exposure to soundstage in headphones.

* I love the details the M50s pick up, even when driven through a laptop or computer speakers. No matter what I drive them with, I can hear the pick grinding against the string on an acoustic guitar. And that leads to really high immersion.

My goal budget is around $350. But I'm very willing to spend $500 on the right pair of headphones.

I went looking through the Sound Glossary, but I couldn't find the right terms.

So I guess I'm looking for a pair of headphones which sound like a blues bar at 2am, and an old string guitar.

Think you can help me out?

I really appreciate your advice.

(PS. I listen to almost everything on my headphones: They regularly play blues, heavy metal, drum n bass, dubstep, soul, acoustic guitar, a little classical... they even get used for games and movies.)

Beyerdynamic DT770/80.. not much of a looker and good amp is needed relatively, but it has good soundstage, great bass, and good high freq clarity.. although the vocal is not the most forward, but it is pretty sweet sounding.

Thanks for the suggestion!

They look great. They also look like a sideways step from my Audio Technicas.

Is there anything in their line that's a step up?

I've been stalking this board for awhile. And when I picked up my M50s, they seemed one of the better picks for $200 / $250.

Is there any improvement if I shell out the extra $100 / $250?

ultrasones maybe, but not everyone likes their sound sig. pro900 sound good out of an iphone isolation is not as good as the m50 and they are bigger than the m50

edit ignore my post, these sound like the front row of a deathbmetal gig, not laidback at all
