I know. frown.gif And I could have used them as a prop today in one of my classes, too. We were talking about how sometimes, when an object or concept is new enough, it takes some time for people to settle on which term is predominantly used to describe it. And IEMs are a good example of this. They're called in-ear monitors, IEMs, earphones, canalphones, and, slightly disappointingly, the incorrect term earbuds or buds is increasingly applied. Since they technically didn't exist until Etymotic (late 80s? early 90s? I can't remember), they're a relatively recent development. I've also noticed that, while the term IEM tends to be preferred in type here on Head-Fi, in speech even people who know about this stuff rarely (if ever) call them this.

Not to change the subject or anything. biggrin.gif

I'm currently rocking my Ie8's, and debating if I should buy the Ie80's.

I also remember a few years ago when there was a very real distinction made between:

- Earbud
- IEM
- ECH ("EarCanal Headphone")

I only remember this because my mobile Denons were put into the "ECH" category, not the "IEM" category - I forget what the distinction was. But now everything more or less seems to be IEM except super-cheap buds (I also remember when quality buds existed).

Not to prolong your changing of the subject or anything. wink.gif

Anyways - listening to my ESW9s and A Jolly Christmas from Frank Sinatra.

Apple's new earbuds...

I have owned many headphones including the HD800's and HE-500's but had to sell them due to financial difficulties. My roommate's cat ate my EPH-100 so this is all I'm left with...

I want to listen to music so badly!!

The Earpods really aren't bad. Apple or not.
