Rockboxed iPod 5G + iMod + LOD + AMP + Westone 4's worth it?

Hi all,

Relatively new to high end portable stuff and wanted to know if its worth going to the effort to iMod a Rockboxed iPod 5th gen and buy a decent amp to drive my Westone 4's?

Is there going to be a noticeable difference between that setup and just the standard HO on the iPod itself for driving the Westone 4's?

I'm only using FLAC's btw, not mp3's... :)

Thanks in advance

Alex

imod+amp will certainly be a big step up from just purely ipod, however, i'll suggest getting an AMP/DAC so you have a decent source for your computer as well. IMO IEMs can sometimes be picky with their amping so if hiss is a big consideration for you you'll probably want to do some impedance matching first. To start you off the iBasso D-Zero and E7 gets recommended a lot around here.

I'd probably wait and see what the E17 was like first before I spent any $$ and would get a usb DAC+AMP for sure. Appreciate the response.

Indeed, diy imod + bigger hdd(or even ssd) + some good amp like t5 or pico slim would be great setup
