Hey. Looking to buy a Sennheiser 598 HD for 200$. I got a deal from an old friend. Is that a good deal? Includes a 2 year warranty.
Have a few questions:
Are they strictly for in-home use? I want to bring them to the local library, or listen to them in the car, on the subway, etc. Will that be a problem?
I don't mind if other people hear what I hear. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks Head-fi community

Best closed headphones I had heard - very flat response, almost no midrange distortion, very easy to drive (good for portable), good soundstage (definately better than K240), good isolation, but...

Overall excellent buds, very good sound quality, especially for their price, the medium set of tips fits exactly in my ears and provides a near perfect seal. Bass is very detailed, but not...

I'll keep this very short. They are very smooth sounding. Treble toned down so not so good for rock but have a magic about them that makes them better than mark 2. I use them with a '89/'90...

Yes they are open headphones and sound will leak in and out, ambient noise will be heard by you
and depending on your taste for volume - others will hear your music too.
They're easily driven by a portable Mp3 player but sound best with a little portable amplifier.
$200USD is 3 dollars cheaper than the current price on Amazon.
Yeah except I live in Canada, so most don't ship there! 200$ in Canada is a pretty good deal I.M.O.
I've heard that there are issues with how long the cord is.. is there a way to fix that?

I've heard of people seeking out a shorter cord but no real solutions ~ one would be to re-use the
Sennheiser screw-in connector and make up your custom headphone cable with a new 3.5mm
plug end.
The other is much simpler ~ use a rubber band to tie some of the cord section ~ simple. That
way if you want to watch TV one day, you've got that stock length.
Thank you VERY much for your prompt, informative, and detailed reply. Happy holidays!
